For hobbyists especially: "message in a bottle" mindset about posting your art will really spare you some grief. Post art, hope for the best, wander off and do something else. If people like it, that's great~. And if they don't it won't hurt you - you're occupied with other things.

i think the most perpetually disheartening thing about being an artist trying to make even a little bit of money off my work is that i'm surrounded by judgmental people who are judging me on entirely oppositional metrics which would be funny if it wasn't so fucking sad

re: last post - i'm personally quite glad that i can put down bsky for awhile and not feel guilty or feel like i'm not keeping up or feel like i'm missing stuff yknow? tumblr's kinda the same way. twitter and instagram were never like that. i'm glad that for both bsky and tumblr there's an 'end' too
