The pandemic was a mass-disabling event and one of the reasons it has largely vanished from day to day political discourse is that those in power don't want to acknowledge the long term care needs it produced.

German speaking friends, please help me out. How would you translate Marilyn Frye's "double bind" into German? I found "Doppelbindung", "Zwickmühle", but that both sounds profoundly wrong to me. Any ideas?

one of the things keeping me in london for as long as financially viable is public transport fucking sucks pretty much everywhere else in the county. scandalous
Almost a fifth of England’s rural bus services have vanished in the past five years
Such areas received about half the extra funding per capita than urban areas, according to county council analysis

Always getting those lists of Most Cited Philosophers or Works Featuring in the SEP Most Often or whatever and when you look there's never nothing by any women or POC. Well, finally, thanks to President Trump, a list of philosophical works has come out which heavily features women and black people!

A lot of global academic conferencing is centered around the US, and US academic orgs have to be thinking very seriously now. You cannot continue to carry on with in person conferencing as if foreign scholars have no impediments to travel.
I know we like to pretend everything is "normal" again but..
