Seems like a great day to wishlist some indie games!

Why not start with Black Ice, the "Overwhelmingly Positive" cyberspace looter/shooter RPG where hackers expose corporate corruption and help people get healthcare and organize against the megacorps. store.steampowered.com/app/311800/B...

For as long as I can keep getting funding, I will keep hiring talented and kind people to make great art and stories to inspire people through the dark times. ❤️
I've gotten to work with some really wonderful folks since I started freelancing last year. But I wanna call out @nonadecimal.com! They've been extremely kind and great to work for. I feel super lucky.

Since I'm making a game about hackers, I'm occasionally obligated to share news about real-life hackers.

Running multiple businesses, I've become overly reliant on multiple chrome profiles as dashboards for each, along with dozens of automated google sheets and calendars.

My 2026 goal is to sever my reliance on megacorps and replace with self-hosted and non-US alternatives.
Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

I'm really glad I added this music viz to the escape menu because staring at it soothes me when I'm super stressed and today is an 11 million on the stress meter.

Writing hacker plots for Black Ice is a lot of speculating "will this exploit still exist in 2080?"

I had used this one for the tutorial's prank war between 2 CEOs to hack a vending machine to taunt their employees. I figured a vending machine would still have this vuln but now, maybe more will...
Here's a tragedy of DOGE that most people will never know about, even though it has big consequences: no one is left to coordinate the transition to memory safe systems code. 🧵
"Memory Safety for Skeptics," published in the ACM Queue.

Arguing for why memory safety is worth pursuing, even amid competing priorities and limited budgets, and with or without Rust.

Even though 2025 was an objectively bad year, it was a huge year for me.

Finally closed the chapter on my accident and ptsd. Started a chess business that rapidly expanded to 20 schools. Which in turn is helping me hire a bunch of artists for my games. And now teaching game design at a university!

Prototyping a little ambient infoviz thing that draws facts from Wikidata based on your location. When testing with a lat/lon from central London, I love the fact: "Looking around, you might find British Empire."

I know this is true because Meg and I became friends 15 years ago in a Skype chat room for new indie devs when I was trying to make my first game.

15 years later, we're still not really famous, but we're a lot better at making games! Plus we help each other with our projects all the time.
Just gonna say this again for games sphere cus we get the same question:

Networking doesn't mean schmoozing up to famous people, it means making friends with your peers. Then in 10 years, 20, one of you might be famous? And sure you're still helping each other cus well yeah friends.

Make. Friends.
Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.

Every time I post about Black Ice, a bunch of people buy it on Steam (what a concept!) so I should probably let you know it's 15% off AND it looks even better than the trailer and screenshots on the store page.

I know, making a new trailer this weekend!

What is the opposite of pizza??

In Black Ice, this pizza joint is a front for corporate assassins, using their delivery access to reach their targets.

I want to add a rival agency that also delivers food. Ideally something that lends itself to Takeout puns. But what's the opposing food to pizza?

Some work from this morning. Always wanted to do series of abstract planets, so here's the first one. Trying to reset a bit and get back to where I need to be. Just a lot of life happening and I fizzled out the last month.

Between pirate news broadcasts and autonomous vehicles shutting down a city, we're approaching a rate of one Black Ice plot point occurring in real life every day.

Hopefully the parts where our resistance changes the world for the better start coming true too!

This is a great idea. Adding a clause to my will stipulating which books should go in my memorial tiny library.
Another wip architectural concept from earlier this year. Each time someone passes in the village, a tomb is built for them and filled with their favourite books. A library that allows others to get to know who they were. Using an open book with layered pages as the motif for the structure

My 2 biggest, most cathartic laughs of the week were 1) imagining this guy trying to stuff Pandora into a box and 2) when my girlfriend's 1st grade student confidently handed her a paper, saying "This is what you are", and on the paper was written "BICH".
These people are clowns.

There's multiple plot points in Black Ice about hackers and corporations manipulating traffic with autonomous autos. Turns out it doesn't even take that many to shut down a city. missionlocal.org/2025/12/sf-w...

Happy to report that years later, we're adding some of Ben's art to the game too!

It's been fun watching this go from proof of concept to A Game and it's nearly there!

Any fans of EDF and Dynasty Warriors who remember the Redwall books should keep an eye on this project.
I am SO EXCITED to finally have non-placeholder animations for all this

Like they ain't truly polished yet, need to tune the curves and add more recovery frame movement and etc etc, but hot damn

Also, attacking from a draw is every bit as cool as I'd hoped, totally worth the technical annoyance 🐭⚔️
