When I think back to being an undergrad, many of my most memorable classes were taught by ppl who were not efficient, well prepared teachers but were ppl who lived in a way I aspired to live. No one aspires to be AI.
AI simply cannot stand in front of a classroom, gesticulating wildly and writing semi-illegibly on chalkboards, both of which are key to building rapport and convincing your students you are worth learning from
If people think AI can replace historians and political scientists, I have a bridge on the Thames to sell you.

Started a blog! One of my first posts walks through how to prep your data to use the CATAcode #rpackage (with code + diagrams). With CATAcode, you can easily summarize and visualize responses from choose-all-that-apply questions:

Using CATAcode for Choose-All-That-Apply Sexual Orientation and Gender Questions
In mid-2025, I collected data from trans participants, and some of my survey questions were choose-all-that-apply. Since that time, Merrin and Nickodem (2025) released an R package, CATAcode, to he…

No one who has seen the Epstein case unfold should have any doubt left about why victims don’t report. When reporting means facing more abuse, more exploitation, and more betrayal at the institutional level, while the perpetrators are the leaders of the very systems of “justice” supposed to help you

Self-report scales in psychology get a lot of flak & there’s a desire for more objective, “scientific” behavioral measures. Now if you look at some of these more closely, there are hundreds of way to score them to generate some outcome variable — and many scorings are used exactly *once.*>
