I'm seeing posts on social media that today is the anniversary of one famous bomber pilot's death during the war. 15 other men were killed flying with Bomber Command on 19 Sept 1944, including John Lees (RCAF), Robert Emrose (RAAF), and William Woods (RAAF).

Bit of a niche one here - Schräge Musik. How much did the RAF know about the weapon and what were crews told about it, especially since the vast majority of bombers had no defence against attack from below? Also, why was so little apparently done to combat the threat?
