Both forms of Ceefax are up at the moment. Let's see how long that lasts.

Grumpy PC is now in control
Just a reminder that Pages From Ceefax goes all Christmassy with suitably festive music tonight at ten o'clock (GMT).

Assuming of course I can persuade my PC to boot. It's like an old diesel engine & needs thoroughly warmed up to have a hope of working.

Just had a brief scroll through X for the first time in months. Folks, I think we collectively made the right decision.

I got to thinking last night, as one does, about why lately I don't seem to have accomplished anything on the two million projects I have going - and suddenly realised how utterly rediculous my own thought process is.

It's still a work in progress, but seems stable enough for "public beta", so by popular demand here's a standalone version of the parametric clock generator I recently added to my online teletext viewer:

This is the innards of an MPEG-2 coder - the sort one might use to encode video for freeview/freesat.

Or at least, may have done 10 years ago - this one was made in 2008 and has since been retired.

Rather interesting & rare chance to get a poke inside at what makes it tick.

More exact timing details will be released closer to the time.

Most likely 5 minutes before it goes live...
Pages from Ceefax will begin its annual Christmas Tape outing on the 20th of December - continuing until the 3rd of January.

Thanks for your continued support, and I hope regular listeners will enjoy.

I spent today extracting image data from some interesting eprom dumps...
Figuring out the fairly simple addressing, and shuffling everything around and recombining into a single file that could be decoded as a YUV video frame. 🙂

Ceefax used to be a big source of news for me before I had a laptop and internet access (and wayyyy before I had a smartphone)

so this really takes me back 😅

yet another reminder of what we miss from old(er) YouTube.

Still shamelessly rewatching these occasionally.

So yeah, third major cloud provider to mess up in 2 months.

I say again... Why aren't YOU self-hosting?
November 18, 2025 at 2:08 PM
I'm getting tired of saying this, but in times of global "someone else's computer" outages, Ceefax remains online from a noisy server in someone's attic.

I have designed some SDI receivers to continue my Interference With Video Via FPGA.

Turns out anything involving SDI is annoyingly Expensive, but anyway...

Another massive "cloud" (someone else's PC) outage. Ceefax still unaffected. Why aren't YOU self-hosting things yet?

Apparently JLCPCB send you the X-Rays of PCBs assembled with BGA chips. Rather cool. You can see the innards of the chip if you look closely. Please ignore how much my PCB designery sucks.
