I’m not even sure if Trump cares whether or not he can actually “run” Venezuela or not. Most of his foreign policy actions in his second term have been all about short term gain, flashy shows of force and/or “deal making,“ and then walking away. He may not even be talking about Venezuela in 2 weeks.

Trump has no interest in governing - but he loves the pageantry of the presidency and the power to order violence while “looking strong.”

He has no coherent ideology, but a worldview defined by reactionary grievances and an insatiable impulse to dominate.

An incredibly dangerous combination.
Trump to Fox & Friends on the raid that captured Maduro: "I mean, I watched it literally l like I was watching a television show. If you would've seen the speed, the violence -- it was an amazing thing."

This is why the slow-roll policy reversal strategy has not functioned to meaningfully hurt Trump. You can't defeat the Wrestling Presidency with Debate Club.

Sure, it's good that courts keep rejecting his actions. Those are true defensive victories, but they do not open a line of attack.

It is true that what Democrats can do against Trump in Congress is meaningfully limited (thanks to a bunch of dipshits who refused to vote for Dem congresspeople).

It is also true that they need to go on the attack openly and dramatically.

Lotta news coming out of Venezuela much of it bad but I have to say it is both wildly irresponsible and quintessentially Trump that we’re apparently acting like we’re already in charge of the country when as far as I can tell the government hasn’t surrendered and we don’t have troops on the ground.

What’s more likely than him dying is him continuing to muddle his way thru the next four years in a more and more sour mood, with poor working memory, and high stress which well isn’t great though there’s some schadenfreude knowing he won’t be enjoying it.

The Trump administration says it has frozen all childcare payments to Minnesota in the aftermath of allegations of fraud by some in the Somali community.

Important: allegations along these lines have existed for years, which has resulted in prosecutions starting with the Biden DOJ.

No two ways about it this is targeted persecution of a blue state under the pretense of fraud prevention. It’s fucked up.

It’s interesting that Frankenstein (2025) seems to be shaping up to be one of Del Toro’s most controversial films at least based on my mutuals feed.

Unironically I’d love a prequel show set on Vulcan during the chaotic period that gave rise to both Surak and the Romulans but that’s probably too nerdy for even most Trekkies.

Q: Herzog's office told us that you have not talked after the official pardon request of Netanyahu

TRUMP: Which request?

I’ll admit Stewart’s return to The Daily Show has been more watchable than I expected but he’s also been a jerk.
Dear Jon Stewart,

No one randomly owes you information about their health, their loved one’s health, or, understandably, just wanting to avoid Covid, which is the only way to prevent Long Covid.
Hey Jon Stewart, jokes about wearing masks aren't funny
Critics of the Daily Show host say he's a hypocrite.
