i have been reading Tom Ricks’ “Fighting the Good War” which is a military analysis of the civil rights movement, and one thing that comes abundantly across is that movement leaders and ordinary people made it a practice to refuse to fall into despair and cynicism.

Saw a lot of headlines saying "wikipedia is embracing ai" being tossed around tabloids, and I'm pretty sure they were maliciously written to make you feel a certain way about Wikipedia. What's actually happening is that wikipedia is demanding payment for data scraping and the corpos don't like that.
Sure. AI companies have ALWAYS been training their models on Wikipedia content, which under the free and open access model is available to anyone — including AI companies. Agreements like these require AI companies to limit and offset the strain they place on Wikimedia infrastructure.

[Thread] The Expanse ended 4 years ago today already!

While waiting for a sequel and the Laconia story (I believe it will happen🤞), it's never too late to (re)embark in this great saga across the solar system.

And then The Expanse continues in other forms, as we will see in the following posts.

You know what it did? It felt effortlessly like The Expanse, grounded human sci-fi, with an overtone that I thought the Expanse was largely missing: the opportunity to be an unrepentant fan of humanity.

It's post-war, post-capitalist...hardscrabble, but hopeful.

I dig that vibe.

Too bad. I'm doing it anyway.

So I ran a quick one-shot just to see how it handled at the table. The mechanics looked tight and the initial set-up looked plenty juicy, but just like you don't trust that a rebuilt engine will hold together at speed, I had to give it a shakedown. So enter our heroes
Y'all want to hear about how my playtest of Boundless Space game played out? Because it was top 10 of the ~150 game sessions of last year.

Cassini spacecraft at Saturn.

Back in October 2017 I made a series of Cassini themed artworks as a tribute to this amazing mission that gave us most breathtaking images of the other worlds.

ICE not only manhandled and terrorized a 10th grader who is an American citizen, they stole his phone. And then they sold it.

I repeat, they stole his phone, and then they sold it.
This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

Man, some people think ICE is a storied institution and not a shoddily put together agency that was one prong of our famously awful response to 9/11. We didn't do it this way for LITERALLY hundreds of years. Just disband the sick fucks and get back to normal immigration enforcement.

I can't say this loudly enough: THEY ARE TRYING TO NORMALIZE THE KILLING OF CIVILIANS FOR PARTICIPATING IN FIRST AMENDMENT PROTECTED PROTEST ACTIVITIES.
Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."

If implemented like credit cards through Apple Pay, where merchants only get a token not the actual card number, I’m okay with this. So, if adult websites or apps only get a token saying “User is 18+” and nothing else, I honestly like the idea.

Win or lose, I need your help making sure Becky knows she's a hero for standing up for what's right

Block instead of dunk.

Deny them oxygen and they'll sputter out.
The UK, Canada & Australia are reportedly in talks about potentially banning Twitter/X over Grok’s AI image generation, per The Telegraph.

Ministers believe a joint move would send a “powerful message” to Elon Musk.

Here's the thing. Violence isn’t required, because autocracy depends on compliance...not force alone. When people withdraw consent through mass noncooperation, institutions holding, and legitimacy collapse, power evaporates. History shows regimes fall when obedience stops, not when bloodshed starts.

"Idea Guys" are so accustomed to only knowing how to come up with stuff they don't seem to grasp that's not the hard part of being creative. I can fill a double two-page spread with thumbnails or written brainstorming in an afternoon.

The hard (and rewarding) part is the execution.

like last time (about crypto), pretty sure the discord survey about AI integration is something they'll use to show their shareholders to prove it's a bad investment. otherwise they wouldn't have had those super negative responses as choices.
you should still be overwhelmingly mean about it though.

Let us hope.

I think one of the great realizations folks need to have is that today the cause of liberty and the cause of tyranny are both global. We rise and fall together.

I hope the Iranians achieve their liberty. I hope we defend ours.
Last night in Tehran. We don’t need that many nights like this for the regime to fall. One or two could finish the job.

This brought out a bunch of doomers "...but! but!"-ing with all of the obstacles facing a pro-democracy movement in the USA, but I think it is worth thinking about the question from the other side.

What does MAGA need to do to do (not how, just what) to hold power long-term? Are they doing it?
Well, I guess my question for all of the doomers now would be why they think no one can stop Donald Trump from taking our democracy from us?

The guy couldn't even take Jimmy Kimmel.
