Europe fails to see the contradiction in helping Trump coerce Kyiv to give up Ukrainian territory to Russia and not wanting to give Greenland up to Trump. Accepting the violations of international law in Ukraine means accepting the violations of international law for ourselves.

Amazing moment on French TV. A French judge explains how Trump sent people from the US Embassy basically trying to intimidate her during Le Pen's trial for embezzlement - something they've done to other judges around the world.

There will be no Danish representation at Davos. Thus there can be no discussion on Greenland, making room for a discussion on Ukraine.

Smart move.

The situation in Minneapolis sounds 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 than the parts of Ukraine occupied by Russia.
I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

This is a must-read piece by Casey Michel on the underlying reasons for the Greenland nonsense and it should be getting more attention newrepublic.com/article/2051...
The Oligarchs Pushing for Conquest in Greenland
Trump’s fixation on filching the island territory from Denmark may seem like the demented ravings of a mad king. But to a cohort of plutocrat weirdos, it makes perfect sense.

The Russians are carrying out the largest colonization campaign of our time. Since the illegal annexation of Crimea, more than one million Russians have moved there, while the indigenous population is being repressed and persecuted. Russian soldiers are offered land in exchange for killing Ukrainians

Since 2014, Russia has resettled about a million of its citizens to Crimea.

Trump is picking a trade fight with the EU - this can easily become costly for Trump voters (if there's anyone left).

The EU just signed a free trade agreement with Mercosur, creating the largest free trade zone globally.

The EU is a stable partner, the US is not.
Trump: "Starting Feb 1, all above mentioned Countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands, & Finland), will be charged a 10% Tariff. On June 1, it will be increased to 25%. It will be due until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland."

Ukrainians are amazing.
Amid Russian attacks on power grid & rolling blackouts, Lviv families build a colorful igloo in the courtyard.

Families spent 3 days freezing dyed water in containers, creating bright ice bricks stacked into a dome. Kids still play and build despite the cold & darkness.

That Greenland would prosper by becoming like Puerto Rico is blatantly false. Greenlanders have a substantially higher income than Puerto Ricans and also have free access to healthcare and education. The US can access Greenland's minerals on the free market and outbid China if need be.
