All around transportation and urban planning wonk in beautiful Portland, OR. Civil engineer by day. Father, husband, and proud member of a car-free family. Thoughts my own
God I love Portland. The parks here are truly an embarrassment of riches. Pictured: Fernhill Park, which was not the first but 4th park we encountered on our 3 mile walk🌳❤️

Dear Seattle and your ‘mayor Wilson’: we did it before you.
First, Portland got a Mayor Wilson. Now, there’s going to be a Mayor Wilson in Seattle. At this rate, every city in America will have a Mayor Wilson by 2050. Is this the future we want????

It is wild, if not surprising I guess, that whether people could fly somewhere at Thanksgiving seemed to have more political effect than whether people could *eat* at Thanksgiving.

We used to build MAX lines and now we’re debating whether we can afford paint for bus lanes bikeportland.org/2025/11/07/t...
TriMet says full bus lanes on 82nd are up to project partners
Here's why our transit agency is opting for less transit.

Biking in Seattle got me like

Cheeky little agreements aside: I wish biking like so many of her constituents do wasn’t seen as an embarrassing task to perform.
“I make good on my bets,” Chow said in a social media post. “Congratulations to the Dodgers and Karen Bass. The Blue Jays made you fight for every inning, and our city showed what teamwork looks like.”

@sightline.org @andersem.bsky.social would be curious if there could be follow up to get a map where this *very* limited scenario exists where 4-story single stair is now permissible in Portland.

My guess is: practically nowhere.

City building, fire officials establish guidelines for new single-stair apartment buildings
This allowance supports the development of new multifamily housing units on smaller lots while not compromising the safety of residents when evacuating a building during a fire.

"The impulse to eschew the unpleasant leads to avoidance
avoidance leads to aversion
aversion leads to fear
fear leads to hatred
hatred leads to aggression
Unwittingly, the oh-so-natural instinct to avoid the unpleasant becomes the root of hatred
It leads to war
war within
war without”

Best part of taking the train from Seattle to Portland is I don’t have to see that stupid Uncle Sam billboard off I5 (ie the ‘bigot board’)

Any Seattle folks bopping around before the @thewaroncars.bsky.social / @nerd4cities.bsky.social town hall tonight? I’m coming in by train with bike from PDX, would love to see who is around!

Remember all those hockey stick graphs about climate change? And maybe even that one with a breakneck pace for just the City of Portland to meet its own goal in just a few years???

Well they don’t.
BikePortland obtained via a public records request, letters from two law firms that intensely oppose the bus lanes. The firms represent Washman (which has two car washes on 82nd), Fubonn, and a strip mall owner.

The more dense an area is, the more people realize they need to make compromises & be empathetic towards their neighbors. You can't ignore societal problems: you see them in front of you every day, & you're motivated to help the people around you who need it.

That’s why theres no republican cities.
