I think if you grabbed any famous thinker from centuries ago and showed them Wikipedia and told them it was free for anyone to access, they would say it is humanity's crowning achievement and would be indifferent to the moon landings, modern medicine, flight, or anything else you showed them

This is the best piece of reporting I’ve seen so far on what is going on at IMLS. I encourage everyone who cares about the key role that libraries and museums play in the United States to read it. news.artnet.com/art-world/do...

Wikipedia just surprised me with access to the Wikipedia digital library with its top notch selection of publishers. AND I CAN GET ALL THE ARTICLES AND BOOKS AGAIN (even the ones my husband can't get through his institution).

Leveling up my SPARQL queries with some chatgpt magic. They aren't highly complex but so much faster.

Working through a largish bibliography to identify trends.
Why do archaeologists always give their sites names that are difficult to find on general maps, then use variations of the name and then finally change the site name 3 years later...

Refreshing my #OpenRefine skills and updating an old project on #wikidata . It's always so much fun to see all that's been added but also means a lot of cleanup. A bit more cleanup, and then I'll have the project back on track.

I've been glued to my phone lately trying to keep up with what's going on here. So exciting to read all the conversations. Time to shut down that old account somewhere else.

The last couple of months, I've been teaching a few hours/week of computer ed at local school. I'm a bit stumped because I can't find the gamers - do less kids play computer games and opt for social media instead?

Now that I no longer work directly at a university, I really enjoy adjuncting. My salary isn't dependent on them, and I just get to enjoy talking with students, discussing topics. Adding in practical aspects, challenging theoretical perspectives.

This week, I'm teaching a class on the digital museum. I keep running into old friends: people I've worked with, projects I've admired. I'll be talking about the Städel, the Landesmuseum Württemberg, the MKG Hamburg, the Badisches Museum, the Smithsonian,...

Gearing up to teach next week and realizing how much AI has changed the way I prep my teaching: I've been chatting with the assigned readings, generated images for slides with dalle, created summaries of longer texts,... I'm also more focused on the learning experience.

Keep wondering whether AI image generators include any form of geolocation. Are the images created from an IP address in the US different from those from Germany?
In recent weeks, we've seen a wave of AI-generated images of white, blonde families presented by neo-fascist online accounts as models of a desirable future. As disgusting as this is, it seems no coincidence that AI is being used for reactionary propaganda

Preparing a workshop on digital museum infrastructure. It always makes me return to the same dilemma: how many digital tools should I include (participants want all digital). In reality design thinking and CX-methods are so much more helpful in designing digital workflows and assessing needs.
