Paddy probably did more for getting good food to people than any other restauranteur in Liverpool…ever!! If you are of a particular age the Everyman Bistro was a rite of passage…a lot of people owe him a big thank you for what he created.
Paddy Byrne died yesterday. The creative catalyst behind the Everyman Bistro and then the Pen Factory. The Bistro was a cultural oasis that served great food, drink and music. The salad bar in the 2nd room was something to behold in Liverpool in the 80s. Vale Paddy.

Well I for one think that the Home Secretary trailing "significant changes" to the asylum system on a white supremacist's site, and being boosted by the clownshow political editor of a far-right news channel will be a great start to next week for Labour.

I wrote about this street in Liverpool and about memory and myth for the 12th edition of Science & Magic, full of splendid writing as ever. You can read the magazine here: www.violetterecords.com/science-and-...

I am obliged to report that when the No 10 spokesman gave this part of the statement there was a brief but heartfelt outbreak of laughter from journalists, one of whom later asked if the PM might thus be interested in a bridge he had to sell.

The BBC should serve as an example to all that there is nothing you can give the far rabid right that will satisfy it.

It has simpered, pandered, soft-balled and fluff-jobbed, both-sidesed and debased itself into being a platform for liars to look down the camera and lie on, & it still gets fucked.

Tim Davie resigning from the BBC over the edited Trump video is like Al Capone being jailed for tax evasion: sometimes the right thing happens for the wrong reason.

So let me get this right. We had to leave the EU to control immigration, and we are going to control immigration by emulating the stringent immigration system of Denmark, which is a proud and happy member of the EU.

This. A thousand times this.

Print it on posters and flyers. Pin it above the desk of every pro-democracy politician, staffer and strategist. Make memes and insta stories of it. Do Tik-Tok dance routines to it. Use it as a rallying cry and make it the accepted norm, not a lost epitaph of failure.
This is yet another example of how you beat the far right. By beating them, not trying to be them. By having your own agenda, not aping theirs. With courage and conviction - and humour - not fear and timidity.
