Nope.

The 1973 "battle of the Sexes" was much criticised at the time as it involved pitting a portly 50 something retiree Briggs v the womens Wimbledon & US Open champion 29 year old Billie Jean King.

The Sabalenka-Kyrigios match was much fairer as Kyrigios was atleast still in top 700 ranked men.

Im the opposite.
Carr is the supreme comedy technician, master of his craft but essentially a nihlist, a hollow soul.

Gervais I can still detect has the small town insecure boy about him & Hes aware of it. His edginess is that of the comp school boy who cant believe he made it.

Carr is far darker.

My favourite completely mad Hollywood age difference incident was:

Jessie Royce Landis playing the role of Clara Thornhill the mother of Roger Thornhill (played by Cary Grant) in Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1959 thriller North by Northwest.

Jessie Landis was at the time 63.
Cary Grant was then 55.

Thats just the start, soon to follow:

1. You treat this house like Picadilly Circus
2. Your room smalls like a Paris Boudoir
3. Do you want a knife & fork with that? (said to teenagers in a lingering goodbye kiss on their parents doorstep)
4. You'll catch your death in that top/skirt/T-shirt

Guilty chuckle.
And a good morning to everyone reading the “later life” section of Brigitte Bardot’s wikipedia page for the first time

Been following this trend with bemusement.
Majority of podcasts are listened to while
1. Travelling/walking/queing
2. Doing other stuff/working
3. Before sleeping

In all cases we dont look at screen.
The move to video podcasts is driven by advertisers who want the visual attention.
Just dont do it.

In their last 4 games Arsenal have scored 6 goals.
These have been:

4 own goals
1 penalty
1 from open play

This has to be some sort of a record.

One reason why I reject the modern notion nostalgia is always bad is its a useful metric to see how far we've fallen.

The people who brought us brexit cannot admit fact that it has weakened UK so now they have only one option left:
Destroy the EU to end the chances of returning to what we once had.

This isnt the Conservative party of your grandparents.
Reform MP Danny Kruger on pornstar/provocateur Bonnie Blue announcing her support for the party: "We’ll take votes from wherever we can get them, we want all the support we can get. Quite like Bonnie Blue."

Says party isn't "going to be fussy, we're not going to be judgemental" about Reform voters

Heads up:

This latest Liz Truss venture isnt going to work.
I mean there are people who could go for this but no one is going to spend 500K on it.

Watching the Westwing as comforting slop in these difficult times I came across Series 5 Episodes 22/23 where the actions goes to Gaza/Israel.

Its incredible how little has changed but yet how stupid it seems now, like some really dumb clumsy school level Hasbara.

Good article by @davidallengreen.bsky.social

Rather begs the question, if once Brexit didnt work rightist politicians moved onto leaving the ECHR..

..what happend when leaving the ECHR doesnt bring any improvement...?

What do we leave then?
Those opposed to the ECHR will never be satisfied by tinkering, just as Brexiters were never satisfied by the many opt-outs and rebates the UK received, writes @davidallengreen.bsky.social.
The good, the bad and the ugly of ‘rebalancing’ the ECHR
Human rights law should be kept under review, but that does not mean it should be weakened

The whole concept of christianity as some sort of grievance mongering right wing angry political movement seems so very *unenglish*.

Its as if the new "christian conservatism" isn't really chrisian nor even conservative - but a rightwing american style movement contrived on to England artificially.

Only found out my grandparents were weekly churchgoers by accident in my 30s.

We'd go round late for traditional sunday lunch.
But they never talked church & God.
There was no "christian politics"
Id love this english comfortable religion to come back.

Wonder how many people are still like that?

Start of November Tottenham were 6th.
Nottingham Forest were seemingly destined with Wolves for relegation at the bottom of the table with just 1 win.

6 games later Nottingham Forest are just 4pts behind Spurs who are now 11th & Spurs to face Liverpool next game.

Have to guiltily admit @rolandmcs.bsky.social I do long for a world where:

Tea was:
PG Tips, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Assam or those weird fruit ones when you have flu.

& coffee was:
Ground, instant, Irish
Espresso, Latte, capuchino were only to be drunk in smart London cafes or on holiday in Italy.
I should declare an interest here: my usual coffee order is for a Decaf Oat Latte.

When far away from London I often apologise for it: 'Sorry, I know it sounds wanky'.
In which Christian populism becomes a shared experience of saying 'yah-boo' at the same horrors, like.... decaffeinated coffee and oat milk.

As for colonial inequality, imagine a Christian getting bothered about that....

Journalists keep reporting *16pts enough* to qualify for top 8 UEFA CL...

However due to a fixture quick few have clocked, the only fixture in last 2 games with two top 8 teams is Arsenal/Inter - & Arsenal already have 18pts.

This means its likely 17pts needed.

This is how many points your team needs to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages

European trade & cutoms area debates are a bit like ice skating.

The vast majority of people can get the hang of the basic elements each time they engage with it.

Unfortunately they dont engage with it for a year or so and have to learn the whole thing all over again each time.

Literally no one likes Truss

Not her husband who she cheated on
Not her daughters she used in referendum
Not her local Assoc.
Not the Tory party who dumped her
Not the voters
Not Trump who wont see her

Imagine spending £500 000 to join a Truss led club when average London club costs £2 000 a year?
