This is a story about how America’s world-leading cancer and dementia research system was destroyed by frauds and naifs who broke the law.

There must be consequences.
Some incredible details in this piece
*one DOGE faction was planning the future of the US government at a venture capital firm
*illegally communicating on Signal to avoid transparency laws was deeply embedded into organizational culture to be taken for granted

Nobody asked but since we're talking about Mexican covers of English language pop hits,

I'll never forget when I still worked retail, going in super early, sitting in the parking lot in the dark & this came on AM radio: a kickass banda cover of Shania Twain's Still the One

I’ve often called this song—“Just Like Heaven”—the finest single of the 80s and meant it. This cover’s arrangement only confirms it for me 💜🔥

We are former CDC officials. RFK Jr.'s change to vaccine guidance is propaganda.
Under Secretary Kennedy, CDC materials can no longer be assumed to reflect scientific authority.

I wrote a little bit about the "missing heritability" question and several recent studies that have brought it to a close. A short 🧵

In collab. w/the Society for Integrative & Comparative Biology, I'm organizing a group of artists to come to our Jan. meeting! We're looking for artists to create based on what they learn at the conference. $1000 stipend.

Srsly, as an academic: this field cites Schmidhuber & LeCun the way biologists cite Darwin. They think they're inventing intelligence from first principles. But their lingo is pidgin cog neuro, they can't define intelligence, & their "theories" are software engineering

In place of good UI / DSLs, we are forced to interact with "agents" 🙄. Bad idea: Nardi knew this in 93 👇

Yet programmers claim they have the God-like power to endow agents w/reason, as if Hinton, LeCun, et al. gave birth to cog sci. Epistemologically bankrupt-ass field.
