Bringing this to Bsky bc @steverattner.bsky.social hasn't posted it yet and it's so critical. The entirety of the cuts to Medicaid and food benefits are to pay for tax cuts for people earning more than half a million a year.

China will be fine through Trump’s trade war (We won’t be.)

Chinese shipment of goods to the U.S. dropped 21% in April from a year earlier, while exports to:
Southeast Asia surged 21%
Latin America jumped 17%
Shipments to Africa soared 25%
European Union rose 8.3%”

Another tragic broken promise:

$2,000 billion ($2T) goal

~$130b actual or less.
‘Wall of receipts’ accounts $63 billion

Minus ~$200b 2026 alone: less tax revenue, unemployment, rehiring etc.

=~$70b loss just 2026.
DOGE increased deficit while cruelly and illegally cutting people and services.
It'd be nice if editors at major media outlets did a basic refresher on journalistic ethics so they could understand that claims require a factual basis. By any reasonable metric, DOGE has *increased* the spending of the government and *increased* the deficit while reducing the quality of services.
First, what qualifications whatsoever does this guy have to speak "with the guys on DOGE"? Second, how incredibly irresponsible for the reporter Anemona Hartocollis to describe DOGE as "a group that Elon Musk has led to reduce the size and spending of the federal government."/1

Everyone should remember that they ARE destroying essential services and research that make us better but they ARE NOT reducing spending.

Even when Trump confounds us with an occasional righteous goal (in the 90s it was Democrats who led the charge on worker protectionism) he will do everything to execute it dumbly

And I like to think we’ve all evolved a bit and believe in global trade. Incentive-based policies like CHIPS—that works.

Numerous aides had for weeks been at work crafting country-specific tariffs that took into account a broad range of tariff & non-tariff barriers

But of course the double standard—Military gets to come up with a 5 year plan while other departments are gutted. I’m confident in the legal fight to defend them.

I really, really enjoyed The Brutalist. It’s big cinema. But something about the Bauhaus philosophy didn’t feel fully captured, which this sensational headline confirms. I still recommend you see it on the biggest screen you can find. www.theguardian.com/film/2025/ja...

YES. this is perhaps the biggest long term risk in rebuilding (or the 2nd biggest, after not rebuilding more fireproof)—that speculators who don’t intend to live in plots snatch them up.
I just issued an executive order barring opportunist speculators from taking advantage of LA firestorm victims with unsolicited cash offers to buy their properties.

The last thing these victims need are greedy speculators taking advantage of their pain with low-ball offers.

Yes, we could be better prepared for extreme weather that kindles fires that burn LA—& should expect more.

I think the debate around “how much $ to allocate LAFD” is weird, we aren’t budget experts.

But it IS clear we need stronger fire code & regulation for utilities, businesses, and homeowners.
