A predator drone locks target and lights it up with a sidewinder missile, downing it in the desert where a detachment of Marines apprehend it (Angels: hard to kill) and put it in stress positions suspended by its wings with a bag over its halo while a private poses for pics and points at its dick.

I think this is a Eureka for media literacy as a whole. A generation raised on mockumentary comedy fundamentally cannot read actual documentaries. Probably the rot began with Spinal Tap.
I think I've cracked the code as to why so many people try to psychoanalyze the facial expressions of the Phantom Menace crew in the fly-on-the-wall behind-the-scenes material:

In all honesty I barely really pay attention to the news anymore and just use it as white noise while I'm trying to work on other things, because nothing ever gets better, but things also don't really get measurably worse in ways that outpace the patterns of history that people tend to forget.

Lowkey one of Lang's absolute best films. Crackerjack resistance thriller where it really is a community against the Nazis, and pulls no punches for its time, especially with the restored ending. Up there with the Mabuse films, and feels oddly like an inversion of M.

Watched Toby Dammit last night in light of Terrence Stamp's passing. There's a wonderful moment where one of the interviewers asks him if he believes in God, and after a great deal of very cheeky answers, he simply whispers "No", in such a way that it feels like he genuinely wishes he could.
