#NCGA lawmakers have kept us waiting on a state budget for more than 200 DAYS!

Enough is enough. North Carolinians deserve a well-being budget that addresses the needs we see in our communities and invests in our future. #nc #ncpol #economy #budget

Without a state budget, the health care programs and hospitals that help rural communities in NC get the care they need are in jeopardy. No state budget means dire consequences for NC families.
Healthcare costs increase as budget impasse continues
North Carolina remains the only state in the country without a comprehensive budget for the 2025-2027 biennium. Without a fully updated budget, public programs, such as Medicaid, lack the necessary funding to succeed, and residents are bearing the brunt of the state legislature’s impasse with increasing healthcare costs. “North Carolinians who rely on Medicaid are...

😠 North Carolina deserves better than this.

We should have a state budget that serves our communities by funding the things we need to live to our full potential, not one that continues to cater to the rich and corporations. #LoveNCFundNC

Consequences of a delayed state budget?
💰Insufficient funds for public health care programs
⚕️Lower access to health care due to staffing
🧑‍⚕️Burnout among health care staff

We need a budget that centers well-being, not profits #LoveNCFundNC

Tax cuts in NC primarily benefit profitable corporations and the wealthy few while draining revenue from public services like schools and hospitals and contributing to our high poverty rate. Tax cuts are starving NC, not helping us. #LoveNCFundNC

Major federal funding gaps remain for disaster recovery after Hurricane Helene. NC can’t close this gap on our own, but we can increase state funds for recovery by ensuring corporations & the wealthiest in NC pay their fair share in taxes. #LoveNCFundNC

🚨 ACA enrollment in NC is down 21% — the biggest drop of any state in the country. This isn’t because people don’t want coverage. It’s because lawmakers chose to not extend premium tax credits. Now, more than 200K in NC don't have health care. #ncpol #ACA www.newsobserver.com...

Despite the strong growth of NC's economy, NCians aren't receiving the benefits. This is the result of policy choices that prioritize profits over people, tax cuts for corporations, anti-union laws, and major underinvestment in marginalized communities.
North Carolina’s economy has boomed. Why hasn’t its median income? • NC Newsline
North Carolina’s economy has seen explosive growth since 1970, rising to eleventh in GDP in the nation. But its income growth has lagged behind the rest of the country.

By delaying discussions of a state budget, #NCGA leaders are showing us that they do not prioritize our needs or the issues we’re facing.

The longer our state goes without a budget, the more harm is done to our loved ones in NC.
NC budget impasse continues into 2026
North Carolina was the only state that didn’t pass a budget in 2025. Now, it won’t have a budget until at least April as Republicans and Democrats in the state legislature remain in a stalemate over tax cuts. Among other consequences, this means the state Medicaid program will see a budget shortfall of $319 million....

NC people are already living with fear from aggressive ICE & CBP activity fueled by expanded fed funding. After deadly actions in Minnesota, terror is spreading.

NC Congressional leaders must reject expanded funding for ICE & CBP and hold agencies accountable to the Constitution.
Senators have the responsibility to uphold and defend the Constitution. Using the annual budget process when necessary to protect the constitutional rights and safety of all people and communities should be a requirement of the job.
In the wake of another horrific shooting death in MN by federal immigration officers -on top of wrongful detentions, violence, & fear there & across the country- it is appropriate for the Senate to use the budget process to push for critical protections for people & communities.

nadequate child care funding creates a harmful ripple effect across North Carolina’s economy and well-being. It’s time for #NCGA leaders to prioritize child care funding in our state budget. #LoveNCFundNC
The Hidden Cost of Child Care Gaps in North Carolina’s Economy
Lack of access to affordable, high-quality child care is a barrier to labor force participation for working parents in North Carolina and affects our state’s economy. In 2024, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the NC Chamber Foundation, and NC Child released Untapped Potential in NC, a statewide study that estimated that child care-related work disruptions cost North Carolina’s economy $5.65 billion annually, driven by $4.29 billion in employer costs and $1.36 billion in lost tax revenues.

According to our 2025 Living Income Standard, one adult in NC needs to make $20.30/hr just to afford their basic needs. NC’s minimum wage is still at $7.25/hr. It’s beyond time for #NCGA leaders to step up and increase the minimum wage to a livable wage.
What it means to live on minimum wage in NC
North Carolina hasn’t raised its minimum wage since 2009, and it’s still stuck at the federal minimum. It’s beyond time the state stepped up for its workers.
