Yesterday, BTC was present at the Mock Budget Hearing at the #NCGA. We need ALL our lawmakers to pass a state budget that protects us from cuts to the services we rely on.

Here’s one way to do so: pause tax cuts for corporations and the ultra-rich so we have the public $$$ to invest in our future!

Stop the tax cuts before Jan 1! North Carolina can't afford to lose $1 billion more in public funding next year. We need those dollars for what matters most in our communities! #LoveNCFundNC #NCPol #NCGA

Let's take care of our future, North Carolina! We need our lawmakers to invest in our community's needs, not continue to give out even more tax breaks to the richest 1%.

Everyone should feel safe in North Carolina, but when armed, masked agents patrol our streets and violate our civil and due process rights, every one of us — regardless of our immigration status — becomes less safe. #ncpol

#NCGA leaders' own fiscal staff and state economists have warned that they must stop tax cuts for the rich and corporations, or we won’t have enough money to sustain inadequate levels of investment in state services and fund priorities that NC needs! Stop the tax cuts by Jan 1.

The lengthy federal funding shutdown exposed how decisions made in Washington ripple through every corner of North Carolina — slowing funds, disrupting services, and driving up costs for everyone.

Food assistance for low-income veterans isn't only at risk because of the shutdown. The Republican megabill's SNAP cuts specifically targeted veterans by eliminating their previous exemption from SNAP's harsh three-month time limit.
This Veterans Day, 1.2 million U.S. veterans who count on SNAP to afford food have been harmed, as the Trump Admin has been withholding benefits during the shutdown and the harmful Republican megabill's deep cuts mean many people will lose SNAP altogether.

If Congress fails to renew enhanced premium tax credits for 2026, 267,000 veterans nationwide could lose affordable health coverage — and many will become uninsured altogether.

🇺🇸 1 in 12 veterans in North Carolina — 47,000 people — rely on SNAP to keep food on the table.

No one who has served our country should struggle to afford groceries. Yet too many veterans are being left behind by policy choices that put corporations ahead of communities.

SNAP is a powerful program that ensures 1.4 million North Carolinians can better afford food even as the cost of groceries increase. For children, seniors, veterans and businesses, the dollars provided keep people healthy and fight hunger.
Mapping What’s at Stake: The Impact of SNAP on North Carolina’s Families and Local Economies - NC Budget & Tax Center
Every county in North Carolina benefits from federal food assistance.  Each month, SNAP (aka food stamps) dollars flow into every community, helping families put food on the table and keep up with rising costs. They also keep local grocery stores open, support jobs, and strengthen local economies.   That critical support is now at risk. Without…

It is a relief that the federal admin is finally following the law and using the #SNAP contingency reserve to partially fund November SNAP benefits.

However, let it be clear that NC families need their FULL SNAP benefits now, which the federal government has the power to fund.
It is a relief that the Administration is finally agreeing to do the bare minimum and follow the law by using the #SNAP contingency reserve to partially fund November SNAP benefits & nutrition assistance in Puerto Rico & American Samoa.

NC families need certainty they can put food on the table this month. The USDA and Trump administration can provide it by using their existing authority to fully fund food assistance for everyone eligible.

💸 For most of us, rising costs means household budgets are being stretched to their limits.

Heaping on more health care costs is the last thing North Carolinians need. Congress can stop health expenses from skyrocketing by renewing enhanced Premium Tax Credit!

Leaders in other states are stepping up to make sure that funds are available for families struggling with rising food costs. Will our lawmakers in the #NCGA return to Raleigh to make sure people have food on the table in November or sit ideally by as NC faces a hunger crisis?

Did you know that in every county in NC, at least 1 in 10 residents faces food insecurity? No one should go hungry because they can’t afford food. The Trump Admin must release emergency funds to continue food assistance now!

The Trump Admin claims that #SNAP benefits aren't available for November 2025 b/c SNAP’s “contingency funds are not legally available to cover regular benefits.”

This stands in opposition to the law & prior practice, including by the admin itself.

The Trump Admin claims they can’t use federal contingency funds, otherwise known as emergency funds, to continue SNAP benefits in November.

That’s FALSE. What’s real is the harm they’ll cause for North Carolinians. In some NC counties, 1 in 3 residents receives #SNAP.
