ICE unlawfully arrested & detained Rümeysa Öztürk after she co-wrote a pro-Palestinian op-ed as a PhD student. Her recent op-ed reveals the trauma she faced.

Cases like this led the AAUP to sue the Trump admin in AAUP v. Rubio. We won the lawsuit & protections for non-citizen students & faculty.

Brian Evans, pres. of the Texas AAUP, says if students ask about current topics, instructors will have to decide whether to engage or not, since everything discussed in class will have to be pre-cleared. “What kind of education is this?” 🤬

Our UT colleagues have the same questions we do.
📢 Peter Onyisi, a UT Austin professor of physics: “Which office will decide the range of opinions that can be held in good faith as defined by this document? Will they be experts in the relevant disciplines or will they just seek to avoid unpleasant publicity?”

This is very good. We are wary of completely declaring victory because the DoJ has a parallel policy to the Dear Colleague letter from DOE. We will keep fighting. We can win, but we will not win just with folks who are already political. We need everyone.
BREAKING: The Department of Education has ended its directive that attempted to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in schools nationwide.

I think it was @tressiemcphd.bsky.social who was insistent that we decouple our online work lives from our online personal lives and here's data point one million supporting that theory.
