Following Storm Claudia there's a lot of water in the fields around the Tagus Estuary. Many of the birds have moved to different locations, some gathering in huge flocks.

The Waxbill, a bird of sub-Saharan Africa, has become naturalised in Portugal and a common sight. This morning we watched these birds in the hedgerows and feeding on the seedheads of rushes.

1st Day of Tunisia -Winter Sun Birding with @naturetrek.bsky.social was in Edkouk NP south of Djerba. Lots of Oryx, Ouadad and Dorcas Gazelles. Wheatears inc Maghreb, Black-crowned & Red-Rumped. Larks Inc Thk-billed, Bar-tailed & Desert. Found our first Fulvous Babblers - Great start in the desert

A day in Oued Massa on Morocco winter sun with @naturetrek.bsky.social & as always the area delivered on variety. Started with 78 Stone Curlew & moved on with Tchagra, Melodious Warbler, Blue Rock Thrush, lots of waders. Fly throughs of Merlin & Barbary Falcon. A Red Necked Nightjar at roost etc etc

The 1st full day of Morocco Winter Sun birding with @naturetrek.bsky.social found us South of Guelmim areas around "Tan-tan 100". Plenty to kick off our desert species with Scrub-warbler, Wheatears inc Desert, Red-rumped, White-crowned & Larks inc Hoopoe, Bar-tailed, Temmincks, & Fulvous Babbler.

Serenity can be found and savoured when watching graceful and elegant waders (or shore birds in the USA). These images from the Isles of Scilly (UK) don't really do these birds justice but wonderful to watch them feeding naturally and undisturbed at close range 😀🪶 #ukbirding @naturetrek.bsky.social

I was fortunate to see a range of late summer mediterranean insects during a recent Go Slow in Mallorca trip, co-leading with @naturetrek.bsky.social ; highlights included the Violet Dropwing, Discrete Chaperon moth, Violet Carpenter Bee and Crimson Specked moth.

The last full day in Southern Morocco with @naturetrek.bsky.social on the coast at Massa. Started with a field of 206 Stone Curlew & ended with 160+ Bald Ibis in a single flock. Am Golden Plover & Plain Swift were local rarities whilst Moussiers Redstarts are perennial crowd pleasers

Just returned from co-leading @naturetrek.bsky.social Go Slow in Mallorca tour - where we saw a great diversity of birds, my highlights being Black Vulture, Eleonora's Falcon, Swamphen, Marbled Duck, Little Bittern, Black-eared Wheatear, Caspian and Whiskered Tern, Med Flycatcher + many waders

Southern Morocco with @naturetrek.bsky.social & we have spent the last couple of days heading east on the high arid steppe. A mix of Larks and Wheatears has been our primary focus The Pharaoh Eagle Owl showed well. Migrants inc Black Storks sharing a thermal with ST Eagles & a LL Buzzard

Swiss Clubmoss Selaginella helvetica is a really scarce plant in Switzerland's Engadine Valley. Here it is in a pasture next to Bernina Lagalb station in early July. @naturetrek.bsky.social
