This morning, staff running our Open Day at Naturetrek HQ discovered an unexpected visitor in our Moth Trap… a beautiful Brown Long-eared Bat! After seemingly enjoying a bottomless buffet of moths, the bat was safely returned to its roost 🦇

#NewsFromTheField: Poland's Mammals

Last night in Poland, our mammals group had superb views of Eurasian Lynx! This along with Wolf, Bear, Bison and Wildcat completed the "Big Five" and an amazing 19 mammal species so far!

News from the Field: Guests on our wildlife photography tour to Thailand have been extremely fortunate this week, with a Black Panther (melanistic Leopard) walking within meters of the vehicle whilst visiting Kaeng Krachan NP!

News from the Field: Our “France - Wallcreepers & the Camargue” group have just returned having enjoyed fantastic views of the enigmatic Wallcreeper as well as a whole host of other special species, including Hen Harrier, Crested Tit, Alpine Accentor, Greater Flamingo, Penduline Tit and Bluethroat!

News from the Field: Colombia - Birds & History

Our group encountered this amazing bonus
while visiting Río Blanco Nature Reserve last week! The Rusty-faced Parrot is restricted to the central and
western Andes, and in this case, visits this oak tree
only when the acorns are getting ripe.

Most special however, was an interaction with a pod of Orca when visiting Sealion Island. The pod is notorious for their skilled hunt of elephant seals, and one individual has learned to navigate the narrow channels and tidal pools in an attempt to drag pups off the rocks!

Moving further afield to The Falkland Islands, where Naturalist Tour Leader Matthew Capper shared these fantastic images of the resident penguin species (King, Gentoo, Magellanic, Macaroni and Southern Rockhopper).

Beginning in Sri Lanka, we’ve received news of fantastic sighting after sighting from our local Sri Lankan naturalists! Highlights include Sri Lankan Hill Swallow, Brown Wood Owl, Sri Lankan Bay Owl, and Red-faced Malkoha, plus Leopard, Brydes Whale and more!
