Mainly Trek stuff, proud Virginian and Erie resident, Presbyterian minister
I get excited at any new Star Trek, but the current culture at Paramount has me very concerned for what an upcoming Trek film will look like.

#Notevember A Favorite Discovery Track
"Spock's Personal Log"
Melding elements of Discovery's theme and TOS, moves from a solemn recollection of the season's events to a triumphant push into the unknown to conclude S2.

It just hit me:
Diverse ensemble cast
Lots of technical language
Discussing what leadership is
Scientific problem-solving
Emphasis on teamwork and cooperation
A central "captain" figure
#ThePitt is a great #StarTrek show.

Every dad has a favorite battle and never stops talking about it
I have a running theory that all dads can have their personality types inferred by their answer to “what is your favorite war?” It’s like astrology, but for dads

Ran a Duathlon yesterday.
Good news: ran great with no ankle or knee trouble.
Bad news: I'm a terrible bicyclist and couldn't run the last 5K after getting off my bike.

Embarrassed to say I totally missed the "Inner Light" pastiche in the SNW finale until everyone else pointed it out, but it is PEAK SNW to do "what if 'The Inner Light' but without the climate change allegory".

No spoilers, but #StrangeNewWorlds has been working the copy/paste function from previous Trek hard this season.
September 4, 2025 at 1:28 PM
Aside from the weird racial stuff in #SNW "Four and a Half Vulcans," they have the same writer churning out basically the same stuff, which worked great in "Spock Amok" and immediately got tired afterwards.

Nation's leader occupies capital with military forces and takes control of incoming train routes...what would we call this if it was another country?
WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump extends control over Washington by taking management of Union Station away from Amtrak.

This episode of #StrangeNewWorlds we have:
-Big space mystery
-Team problem solving
-Reflections on leadership
-Grappling with moral complexity
Folks, we've got ourselves a #StarTrek!

Star Trek has always been about taking risks to connect and make peace. This is not only morally good, but also makes for interesting story-telling.
SNW falling into "some things are just evil" or "some people just need stabbing" is not a good thing, especially at this historic moment.

I might be the only Trek fan not digging SNW right now.

Loving my #Homicide rewatch, but this was very real.
July 26, 2025 at 7:36 PM
Re-watching #Homicide and the best part is B-Plots like: "Giadello is dissatisfied with plumbers contracted by the department" and
"Munch is upset to discover Lenny Brisco slept with his ex-wife."

Assessing politicians by "how much they got done" rather than "how they improved/diminished the lives of others" is a pretty good Rosetta Stone for political journalist thinking.

Just got back from a week of camp and caught up #StrangeNewWorlds. Rhys Darby was great, but I'm going to admit this might not be working for me.

Gallup has new polling on immigration. Topline findings:

The best written Star Trek of the Kurtzmann area, it's a soft reboot of Voyager, and it got completely abandoned by the studio and the fans.
