There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university.

University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.

I went to KC games each season growing up. The aura was nuts before they even became a winning team.
In a ESPN poll of 111 players, more than half said the toughest place to play in the NFL is Arrowhead Stadium — and it wasn’t particularly close.

For me, academic social media was always like listening in on colleagues in the break room while grabbing coffee—an office interaction only know apocryphally on many campuses. In higher ed, you fend for yourself in terms of coffee. And the break room’s been repurposed for storage.
