These visits are tough. Larry’s been on death row for 45 years and has seen things. But as he ages, he sees his friends being killed in a different light. And we’re there to see things through his eyes. Tonight, those eyes had tears as we discuss Wayne Nichols’ imminent execution.

@hollybfletcher.bsky.social Just finished Missionary Kids. Thank you @kkdumez.bsky.social for the recommendation. It seems all Christian bubbles share a dark commonality: each bubble creates institutions in need of protection. Propaganda seems to be a prominent tool to use in this protection racket.

Sunday’s sermon came a day early.
Missions for many Christians is just a way to enforce NIMBYism. When one is willing to go abroad and tell people of Christ’s community but refuse to allow the audience to live in their community at home, it says something rather specific.

Sometimes the Sunday best has a hood.

I’m realizing the same about the white church. I never figured we had all the answers - but the constant whiffs on the elementary Gospel is enough to make my knees weak.

Many Christians who spent the last 60 years telling us the reason they were bein (bigoted) jerks is because they had to “speak the truth in love” sure do have a hard time calling genocide “genocide” when it happens to fulfill their apocalyptic fantasies.

Shameful.

Oscar Smith has been in isolation since last Thursday ahead of his May 22 scheduled execution. As mandated by TN’s new capital punishment protocol, the liminal period between life on death row and execution has been stretched. His attorney called it “its own form of torture.”

OSCAR SMITH’S CHOICE: Death Row inmates in TN are confronted with a choice. 30 days before their execution date, they are asked if they want to be killed in the electric chair or by needle. Oscar refused to answer and so by default will be executed on May 22 by lethal injection.

Can confirm: Just spoke to him, and Barber and two others were, in fact, arrested.

Story coming.
BREAKING: Police just surrounded Rev. William Barber, prominent activist and pastor, as he and others prayed in the U.S. Capitol Rontunda.

Police then expelled everyone (including press!) from the Rotunda to (presumably) arrest them.

I've covered protests here a lot. Never seen anything like it.
