I'm a Canadian artist living in Toronto. Initially I painted landscapes but the pandemic changed me and now I paint everything, except abstract, but it's still early.

Double tasking.

A selection of different coloured fabrics cut into 4" strips, folded into bundles and arranged haphazardly on a cutting board with a plexiglass ruler and a rotary fabric cutter. The fabric colours are sky blue, dark green, light green, orange, orange with yellow and red foliage, pink/red, yellow and white with black line scribbles. ie, fall tree colours

Ok I cleaned it up a bit on the second sketch. Not sure where I’m going with this. Oh and that’s her mouth, not a moustache. I need to fix that next time.

Prep-work photos are way less exciting than the painting ones but you can’t have one without the other. This is the second of three layers of gesso which keeps my oil paints from soaking into the wood panel and rotting it over time. My process takes 3 days. Gesso-dry-gesso-dry-gesso-dry-paint.

Two years ago I decided I could no longer stomach putting more money into Galen Weston's pocket. I swore off Loblaws, started shopping at local independent shops, farmers' markets. It took a few months to get a new rhythm. Then a year ago dropped Shoppers Drug Mart, drove a bit further to Rexall. >>

The ghosts of paintings from the past 8 years. I've caught myself flat-footed without prepped panels for a new piece so it'll be like this for a week or so.

I’ve added to my driving habits. I shout “It’s a normal car!” whenever I see a Range Rover on the road..
This in addition to pointing and laughing at Tesla monstrosities makes me a more alert and engaged driver.

I felt like I woke up in a Charles Dickens novel this morning. Grey skies, snowy rooftops, dark dreary homes, smokestacks belching into the sky. In real life that smoke is steam that dissipates into the sky and the houses and businesses are about to perk up.
