I have never been a "both sides are the same" person (and I'm still not), and I've repeatedly and grumpily voted for the lesser of two evils, but I'm genuinely not convinced that Newsom would be an improvement over Trump.

Today I ran across a marvelous archive of all-campus memos written by a historian who became a college administrator. In one memo, he fully encapsulated the subtext "what the fuck is WRONG with you people" in the single word "oddly"

It used to be the case that if I was weepy and nauseated, I knew a migraine was imminent. Nowadays it's hard to tell whether it's an incoming migraine or the fascism.

Curry house-style Chicken Madras only takes about ten minutes of dinnertime cooking due to having made curry base sauce and cooked chicken in advance. I look forward to grilling and freezing a large batch of chicken chunks in warmer weather, for a more tandoori-like flavor.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you are poor and/or disabled and feel bad that you aren't doing more to resist bc it takes all you've got just to survive, staying alive IS your contribution to the resistance. The system is trying to kill you. Just keep up the good work of staying alive.
