Oh my!

Linguine with homemade bolognese. This is just the 45 minute version rather than a 4-hour ragù, but it’s still delicious. And finishing the pasta in the sauce is key. (Ideally I would have served a fairly dry Sangiovese with this, but the Pinot was open.)

Uh. "For the shiksa in YOUR life"?

First #spinning project in months. This is Targhee dyed by Fish Bones Fiber. I’m delighted that I bought a double hank of it (8 ounces instead of the usual 4).

Finally got the chicken saag exactly right. Color still bright green, texture puréed but not too smooth, all spices present but not overwhelming. Glad we made a double batch.

It's the simplest shawl I've ever made, but dammit, I made something. It's an asymmetric triangle of (US) half double crochet. Start at a point, increase at one end of the rows, decrease half as fast at the other.

I know it looks like routine spaghetti in marinara, but it’s not. This is pasta all’ amatriciana, one of the classic Roman sauces with the traditional bucatini (thick hollow spaghetti-shaped pasta). We used San Marzano tomatoes and guanciale (cured pork jowl). There are very few ingredients, so +

Blessings on Past Me for doing this.

Aussie meat pies for dinner! The season of puff pastry has arrived. I forgot to get a photo of the inside of the pie because I was busy stuffing it into my face.

Good news: chicken cacciatore. Bad news: I rubbed my itchy allergy eyelids after chopping the hot peppers.

The curries continue, vegetarian this time. Navratan korma is a bit of a production, but worth the effort. I still haven't managed to get the nut and seed paste really smooth, but I'll keep working on it.

Meanwhile, I'm not a baker, but my housemate is. Challah is on its second rise. He's enjoying using the new oven's Proof setting.

More curry: spicy butter chicken, adapted from teaforturmeric.com. We use Cento tomato passata, and usually can't be bothered to pureé the sauce. This is the first time I've had dried methi leaves for it, and they make quite a difference. Love the dry sparkling red with this.

Calabrian fish ragù with a Rhône red blend. We couldn't get the barramundi we've used before, and the store was out of snapper, but tilapia was fine. Recipe from recipetineats.com.

Score! My doctor’s office put in a small take-what-you-want garden next to their parking lot this year. And they were bummed that people weren’t taking the produce. They practically begged me to pick as much as I could use. They even gave me a bag.

Baja fish tacos with dry hopped Pet Nat. I picked up this really intriguing California sparkling white wine on a recent foraging trek to the nearest big college town, and chose the menu to complement it. It has the citrus and hop flavors I like in an IPA, but none of the bitterness that I don’t.

Six dish towels and a bread cloth from one warp, stay stitched, cut apart, and headed for the washer and dryer before hemming. #weaving

I wasn’t sure the charcoal weft would work on this warp, but I think this towel might end up being my favorite of the batch.

Third curry for the week: recipetineats’ Brazilian Coconut Chickpea Curry. This one is genuinely easy, but still delicious. It only uses three common spices: paprika, cumin, and cayenne pepper.

More curry, this time Shrimp Vindaloo. Unfortunately, my note about the source we adapted our recipe from seems to be wrong (probably a cut and paste error). But don’t trust any recipe that doesn’t call for tamarind.

I am a big fan of basketweave selvedges now. So tidy, and no futzing with floating selvedges! I’ve been switching the selvedge threads out for each towel to match the main weft color (they have to be tensioned separately from the main warp anyway, so it’s not difficult).
