Trump passing to Ukraine the same Russian ultimatum to surrender that they had been demanding since 2022. Same old shite over and over again. Ukraine did not submit at its weakest in spring 2022, why should she submit now when Russia's finally hit with sanctions like never before?

I'm sincerely sorry that the fact that Ukrainians keep surviving Russia's genocidal onslaught presents a deadly cognitive dissonance to Europe's and America's far-left (far-right just hate foreigners, there's no dissonance). So much mental gymnatics must be bad for their health.

It's a nice message to send to the EU. It's funny they are not asking the Russians to leave Ukraine though. It's just eyewash aimed at the gullible Westerners donors. At home Russian liberals have been pleading for less corruption and better conditions for their soldiers while they kill Ukrainians.
“If I had to describe the movement that my husband Alexei Navalny created in just a few words, I’d say this: We are a pro-European movement,” Yulia Navalnaya, Russian opposition leader and economist writes in an op-ed.

“We believe Russia is an inseparable part of European civilization.”
What the Russian opposition wants
We aren’t asking for anything extravagant: We simply want Russia to be a normal country that cares about the dignity, rights and future of its people — just as European countries do.

Whereas in reality an average Ukrainian voter is a baseline social demorat, because everyone takes for granted labour rights, free education and (even though impoverished) free public healthcare. Some are more religiously conservative, some are more libertarian.
It's a classic trope that anti-communist Eastern Europeans are reactionaries, fascists, Nazi collaborators and who knows what else.

as a bosnian, i cannot accept this depoliticization of the mass murder that was directed against us. to brazenly claim that the violence has "no political or religious motivation" is beneath common sense. it harms any understanding of what happened in sarajevo and bosnia
“There were no political or religious motivations. They were rich people who went there for fun and personal satisfaction. We are talking about people who love guns who perhaps go to shooting ranges or on safari in Africa.” www.theguardian.com/world/2025/n...

Critical and decolonial studies is only for situations when the West does it 😁 if Russia is involved - then their opponents are caveman nationalists and Nazis and they deserve it
What ensues in academia when one critiques another’s favourite empire…The charge of borrowing from US frameworks toward a robust critique of westsplaining must be the biggest straw person fallacy to my work so far. How did this get through peer review? But also glad to stand there with Maria Mälksoo

I wonder if there's going to be a natural selection for the parties like hers as Russian budget for middling in foreign affairs is dwindling due to the war costs.
Sahra Wagenknecht, a longtime icon of hard-left politics in Germany, is stepping down as co-leader of the populist party she founded only last year.

For what is worth, Stalinism being is rehabilitated under Putin. And the best alternative the Russian 'democratic opposition' has offered so far has been to make Russia corruption-free, not to deimperialise it 🥱
"Putin attacked Ukraine, not Russians" fails to grapple with why millions of ordinary Russians were willing to follow orders in a devastating war against Ukraine.

This stuff open up questions over how far Russia as a society will come to terms with the past after Putin is gone.

PhDs are so strange. I am writing one small chapter that is entirely in my comfort zone. When I started writing the thesis, I imagined that 100% of my work would be like this. Instead, the other 5 chapters push me to develop new experise to back my conclusions from the comfort zone 😂

An IPAS centre burnt out with fireworks thrown into it - women and children lucky to get out alive - when are we going to start taking the far right violence in Ireland seriously?

The UN bona fide examination of Russia's claims about biological warfare (combat birds, bats whatnot) by Ukraine is the least ridiculous aspect to Russian international lawfare.
Proud to publish this piece from my former student, who writes that Russia's lawfare in the European Court of Human Rights is "transforming [it] into an unwitting accomplice in one of the most sophisticated disinformation operations of the modern era.”

The article is really interesting even if I think it is futile to ask the far left to stop being genocidal ghouls. When their favourite dictator is trying to perpetrate a genocide, they simply cannot help themselves.
