This is a macro nature photo I took of a red hibiscus with golden anthers. The crimson background petals create a velvety bokeh which makes the globular anthers pop like tobiko roe. Red and gold always makes me think of the approaching new year. In the Caribbean, these gorgeous flowers bloom throughout every season. While it’s cold outside, I often think of spring. So far, there are no snowy scenes in Seeing Magic, my current WIP. The book is set in the art colony town of Lake Bounty, where it is eternally autumn. A snow day would mean something is going wrong in Lake Bounty.

Here is a black and white photo I took of a forest crow flying over the sunset. A dip in the dark trees frames the towering clouds with soft leafy limbs. At the center, the sky yawns open with brightness, revealing the bird's body and curved wing silhouette in diffused sunlight. A taste of rain on the westerly breeze teased the moment with storm potential. I remember thinking: suns, planets, and moons play the eclipse game. Crows are no different.
