Also just generally, gerrymandering does involve risk, it is ultimately giving Ds to R districts to split the Ds up. But R gerrymanders over the year are getting close to some diminishing returns, I think. Might be OK in a normal midterm. In a wave, those Rs the computer gave you vote D.
“Considering that Trump has done nothing for Latinos, but done plenty to Latinos, don’t be surprised if Latino embrace of Trump proves short-lived, and the gerrymandered Texas map becomes a humiliating own goal.”

Responding here because I don't see a post for 90s Ephemera:

I hope you can tell I mean it as a compliment, that your music this episode puts me in mind of Joe Frank

And the Chirac nuclear episode may be timely, due to Trump's recent announcement about resuming testing!

The unexpected Howard Stern anecdote that begins Bruce’s latest @myhist.bsky.social, man, is that worth the price of admission. I feel like I’d heard about it one time, if that, but regardless—Bruce knits together his insight and vintage clips into an exceptional slice of podcasting. Props, brother

New episodes of Jerry & Alex (@presidencies.bsky.social) talking *vice* presidencies, & Bruce, @myhist.bsky.social, musing on the connection between Thomas Jefferson & John Adams, one of whom—you get one guess–was actually not a slaveholder, a rarity amongst the early presidents. Good listens ahead!

Well done 5 years ago and this ep Not complete, but good in its chosen scope. Interview with Michael Brown aka Brownie classic. 5 years ago, Brown gave his best "mea sorta culpa" to Vann and New Orleans. And despite some holdback, Brown is listen-worthy.
“Floodlines” examined what went wrong in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina—and what those errors meant for the people left behind. Twenty years later, host Vann R. Newkirk II catches up with a family grappling with the catastrophe’s legacy.

People wrongly think this kind of cruelty in America is new. I was listening to “My History Can Beat up Your Politics” podcast’s Kent State episode. It reminded me of all those Americans who said those dead students deserved what they got. The mother of one witness told her she should have been shot

Too soon. Mangold is what got this team (and a good defense) into two AFC Championships. Mark had a good arm at times but needed the center to call, and the blocking thing too.
Too soon to lose Nick Mangold.

This was a fun one!
We had Dr. Todd Arrington on in 2020 to talk about a piece of this election. Highly recommend. One exciting thing about 1880 is the parties were laser close. Anybody's election.
Well, I suppose they would say whisker close back then.

Overlooked in last night’s podcast roundup was an addition to the open feed of My History Can Beat Up Your Politics (@myhist.bsky.social), that being an introductory look at my man Chet Arthur, one of America’s most quietly fascinating 19th-century political figures. Can’t wait for more, Bruce!

The NYTimes/Mamdani thing also shows the work of fascism — the Times would never dare write a story like that about Trump, with the thin sourcing, obvious misrepresentation, and origin from sketchy partisan criminals.

They’re only dare because they know Mamdani won’t retaliate if he wins office.
