Thinking about this again today, as most of the right wing seems prepared to blow up alliances & collapse the dollar rather than abandon the leader who pays them their psychological wage. And of course! They're prepared to destroy just about anything to preserve what matters to them most: their hate
The far right's plan to blow up the govt comes from the same movement that reacted to desegregation orders by razing their own public swimming pools. They'd deny themselves anything to prevent those they deem undeserving from having it too, incl democracy. Their hate is their most prized possession

This is, in my opinion, not only the correct moral/ethical/legal position but also the correct political framing. Everyone can see the agency is out of control; everyone can see that it is constantly violating human rights. "Scrap it and start over" is the moderate position.
