2 yrs ago 1 of my students, wicked smart + anger issues (not with me)did 70 avg work but also nearly got a perfect score on the state test. Has been doing comm. service hrs with me this yr. Yesterday, they graded papers: didn't hesitate to mark "-1/2 SW" more rigorously than I would have done (win)!

Mom passed away today, & while not unexpected, it still hurts. I know her spirit is engaged in a game of Scrabble with her Aunt Nannie & mother, with her Uncle Tom & Dad & grandson (who passed before her) nearby talking trash & frowning at the state of current events. Four of them taught me to 1/2
