I like ancient art and modern comforts. Dramatic and grumpy, but mostly harmless.

"Stop procrastinating" in cuneiform:

"Why don't you write your tablet and do your homework? If you don't, they will say: "Is *this* the sister of Sheru'a-eṭirat, eldest daughter of the Succession Palace of Ashur-etel-ilani-mukinni, the great king, mighty king, king of the world, king of Assyria?"
Queen Liballi-sharrat, the wife of king Ashurbanipal, and his sister Sherua-etirat were both literate.

In fact, Sherua-etirat once scolded her sister, then the crown princess, for not doing her homework. Literacy, it seemed, was an expectation of these Assyrian queens.

I’m going to show this to people who think the Egyptians, Mayans, and Khmer all had pyramids because of aliens.

ALT text is for one thing: describing an image to make it accessible for people with visual impairments. It is not appropriate to put credits or links in there because you don't want them to clutter up your post. It's not your secret footnote area.
please please please stop using alt text as the place to put a link to what you screenshot! just put the text! what's it supposed to do for people who use screenreaders when you ONLY put an unclickable link for their screenreader to read out to them one letter and one digit at a time?

As long as I live, I’ll never understand how “I want the water that my family and I drink to contain toxic chemicals so that extremely wealthy corporations don’t have to pay a little to follow environmental and public health regulations” became a popular political belief.

Every time I see this costume, I wonder what I would dress up as for doing classics lectures, to be similarly on-point.

("Diogenes," I think to myself, and then recall that most higher ed campuses have rules against that.)

Museum depression: when you don't have time to properly see everything so you just give up and go to the airport two hours early.
