After today's meeting at the White House between Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump, Americans need to ask themselves: "Are we the baddies?"

The IL-76 that left Damascus was ~19km from the nearest airport to the southwest of Homs when it left radar coverage.

On the one hand, opting out from all data collection with every data broker I can think of. On the other hand, posting on social media. #DualityOfMan

Since we're growing at a rate of like 60k users/hr, please consider the following:
The thing I am enjoying most about Bluesky is the feeling.of the old days of the other platform. Every single skeet I've encountered is casual, meaningful, and has a purpose. And the purpose isn't "be a shithead."

I hope that as this platform grows, we can hold onto that.

I am genuinely curious if I am muted by a lot of people because of the first five letters of my last name.

Reminder to new users here:

Most hardback books these days have glued, rather than sewn, bindings. This means they’re basically paperbacks with hard covers. And because the covers are bigger than the book blocks, they slowly sag and pull their own spines out. Buy trade paperbacks instead.
Reminder to new users here:

For the first hundred years of its existence, Singer made sewing machines in lots of 10,000 to 50,000, so there are millions of any single model. Most cabinets are made to accept any head, with the exception of the 99, which is a 3/4 size machine, and the Featherweight.
Reminder to new users here:

Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55, the 327 didn't come out till '62. And it wasn't offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till '64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top-dead-center.

Welcome to all new Bluesky members. Here is a complete list of the rules:

Anyway, you'll figure it out. Good luck.

I think I understand why this place is better than the other place.

Everyone posts. It's like zero lurkers.

It's nice that Bluesky users feel comfortable putting themselves out there.

Anyway, just doing my part to not be a lurker.

About twice a year I attempt to post something mildly interesting on the subreddit r/mildlyinteresting. Every time it gets removed by a mod for violating some rule. This time it was for Rule 6: "Titles must be exact and concise descriptions."

I have no idea why I find this so infuriating, but I do.

Hi, friends. It's been a few days since I've said anything here. It's wild out there, so take care of each other.

Until we meet again!

I got a covid booster yesterday. Unrelated, I have been reading "Julia: A Novel" by Sandra Newman. It's a retelling of Orwell's "1984" from the perspective of Julia, Winston Smith's lover and co-conspirator.

This probably explains the fever dreams about solving Newspeak logic using calculus.

I will do better.

Happy Stanislav Petrov Day, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1983 Soviet Nuclear False Alarm incident.

Petrov was a Soviet officer who saved the world from nuclear war.

Today is a day to reflect on the importance of human judgment and the consequences of technology in our world.

Guys, I'm not a dumb dummy, and I'm sure my normal patter could be useful to the general discourse.

I keep trying to think of really good content to post. How do you all do it?

I'm looking specifically at you, @scalzi.com, because you somehow post like 600 messages a day.

This whole thing with Musk unilaterally deciding to deny Starlink to Ukraine in Crimea to prevent an attack against Russian forces is such a stupid move on his part.
