the thing that upsets me about this the most is that Dems had all the momentum, republicans were reeling, and we were getting intra-GOP fighting over the filibuster, all while voters were blaming republicans for their incompetence

this destroys all of this. just a total gut punch

btw, the whole 7 democrats thing is complete bullshit. The number of dems that sold us out is the exact number of dems that were necessary for republicans to win. If republicans needed 4, it would be 4. If they needed 12, it would be 12. Dems know we don’t want this, so they sell out just enough.

If the Democrats aren’t going to fight for the bare minimum for you, then we need to aim for the moon and the stars and go for what we really want. Universal healthcare. Universal basic income. Childcare. Free university education or free trade school.
Democrats won't create the lasting change or tap into the rage of the majority with Schumer and Jeffries in the lead. Centrists won't get it done, no matter how the establishment wills it. The country has radically shifted. The last 10 years is your evidence.

Tonight Democrats proved that old quip.

If a genie gave Democrats 3 wishes, they'd negotiate it down to 1, and then wish for something they think Republicans will like.

We need a true opposition party now more than ever. Because this aint it.

as a thought exercise for everyone reading ross douthat's latest missive in the NYT, i want you to think about sending an email to your entire company with the subject line "Did Women Ruin the Workplace?", then think about the over/under on the number of minutes/hours you would still be employed

I haven’t had proper internet in almost a week because of storms so I’m in a coffee shop frantically trying to catch up on everything but all I want to do is eavesdrop on what I *think* is a job interview that’s taken a very personal turn

Pains me to say it but I think this is true. Some of my colleagues in the media who’ve stayed on X don’t even realize how badly its noxious algorithm is skewing their perception of politics and reality.

Also, that place seems designed to make you miserable unless you’re a Nazi. It’s just wretched.
Tonight's even more proof the mainstream reporters who are still on Twitter are suffering from a brain problem akin Havana Syndrome that is preventing them from accurately doing their jobs. They are being cooked alive by a snuff-focused apartheid algorithm.

I have no respect for journalists who willingly and knowingly use TS (Theft Slop) and then want the world to know shocked they are about the results (or clever in their shock), after they have chosen not to do the work themselves or worked with others (fact checkers, copy editors, etc)
I use Claude (an AI) to scan my posts for spelling and grammar errors. On the most recent post (about the East Wing, link below), I got a really amazing addendum.
