In today’s instalment of “I won’t go to the ER unless I’m literally dying…” an Ottawa hospital is housing patients in the gymnasium due to overwhelming demand.

We need masks in healthcare. We need to stop pretending COVID is over. We need to push back on anti-vaxx rhetoric

This isn’t sustainable

The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) says it is currently dealing with higher-than-normal patient volumes and is preparing some “unconventional spaces”, such as the gymnasium, to meet demand.

Your child is not sick from lack of exposure to sickness. They do not have immunity debt. Your child born after lockdowns does not have intergenerational immunity debt. The immunity debt that your child’s mother never had was not passed on to them via her mitochondria…
A new longitudinal cohort study found that children who were sick more often in early childhood were more likely to continue being sick in later childhood with more moderate to severe infections and require more antibiotic therapies.

“42 years ago I left a country that built walls to come to a place without them.
But today, as a citizen of the United States, for 1st time, I'm hearing rhetoric that reminds me of the Soviet Union of my youth, where it was a crime, and continues to be, a crime to be different”

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok?

We are witnessing an exodus from the caring professions.

Educators. Nurses. Mental health providers. Family physicians.

Everywhere I look, I see stories of caring people who are so burned out that they can no longer continue to serve.

And this breaks my heart.

“Full inclusion” is not simply dumping a highly vulnerable child with complex needs into a regular classroom with no additional staff training or supports for safety and academic success.

Inclusion means hard work.

Inclusion means putting our money where our mouths are.

Your patience may be wearing thin.

Check in with yourself.

What do you need right now to help you get through this day?

Extend grace to yourself.

Extend grace to others.

Keep going.
