It's #buyastrangerabook day!

Earlier, I put out @poorlarkin.bsky.social 's offer.

They'll buy books for kids, up to £30.

One book has gone, so there's £20 left.

If there's a book you'd like for a kiddo, please get in touch and PL will cover the cost.

UK only
I'll go early too Simon. Up to £30 for anyone to buy children's books for their kids, their nephews or nieces, or any kids they know will enjoy them. The harder they find it to afford the books, the more I want them to take up this offer.

Fascinating, informative and terrifying thread about hippos.
I have been doing entirely too much earnest posting about deep things recently, I need to do a proper thread about hippo testicles or something just to keep myself sane.

Oh by the way hippos have migratory testicles.

We’re holding a series of webinars for primary subject leads. They’ll dig into the how what and why of the job, as well as subject specific nuggets of wisdom.

Love this visual essay on how animals are gendered in children's books. Also learned that ladybirds are named after the Virgin Mary 🐞 pudding.cool/2025/07/kids...

Today is the 47th anniversary of this clearly unimprovable photo, from a story so absurd that it shouldn’t be true, but is: the day a team of workers from British Waterways pulled the plug out of the Chesterfield Canal, and all the water emptied out
