There is a f*cked-up tradition in Burma/Myanmar where you pay for little caged birds to be released to ‘gain merit’ for freeing them.
After, the birds get recaptured and the cycle starts again.
This is an even more twisted variation, except the prisoners are treated worse.

The bottom half outshines the top half so hard its wild. D) wins by a league for me, India, China, Myanmar, and Japan all in there. Southern Italy, and various mediterranean cuisines too.
Would miss biscuits n gravy a LOT, though.
