Enjoyed a weekend stay at Heceta Head Lighthouse B&B. The lighthouse keeper’s home was a beautiful Queen Anne, the room and the view magnificent, and the seven course breakfast each morning exquisite.

Large waves could start lapping at some parts of the Oregon Coast and Washington as early as 11:30 p.m., according to estimates. In other areas, the biggest waves won’t arrive until closer to 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

I think the whole issue is we have built our economies on ever expanding growth, and don’t have a good idea of how to define economic success or productivity without infinite growth. Maybe success would look like less people living in poverty with unmet basic needs, or living longer healthier lives.

I am curious to see how people like having no Federal assistance in disaster and relying on state and local agencies instead. We are seeing a lot of COADs and VOADs being formed to be active in disaster. Recognizing that need is only going to grow.

The thing is even if they get voted out of office they won’t really pay because they have a lifetime of free healthcare and a cushy job at one of the corporations that lobbied them, it’s a revolving door with no consequences.

The Republican-backed budget bill that passed in the U.S. Senate Tuesday authorizes dramatic increases to logging on federal lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. But Oregon counties won’t see most of those revenues if the bill clears the U.S. House unchanged.
Federal budget bill would boost logging — but cut funds to Oregon timber counties
The proposed budget bill would increase logging on federal lands, but most of that money won't go to Oregon counties that typically receive a portion of timber sales.
