About half of Austin Community College students are being directly impacted by Trump’s disruption of SNAP in order to use hunger as a bargaining chip during his government shut down. In recent weeks, emergency funding requests from students have doubled.
At Austin Community College, SNAP uncertainty could impact 1 in 2
One in two Austin Community College students could lose or receive delayed funding as SNAP's fate in the shutdown remains uncertain. ACC is determined to help.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:
Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)

If Chuck Schumer’s leadership position is not challenged after this, the Democratic Party will lose the last shred of credibility it’s holding onto.

The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

Indeed. Until progressives in the Senate Democratic caucus directly challenge Schumer’s leadership it’s kind of hard to take their grousing seriously at this point. They are all in on this #SchumerSurrender politics.
Hey just a reminder that it only takes 23 Senate Democrats to remove and replace Chuck Schumer as minority leader. They don't do it because the majority of Senate Democrats approve of the way he does politics.

Carefully choreographed votes and angry press releases are all cute, but the indication of whether anyone in the caucus really cares is whether there’s any push for leadership changes or punitive action against the cavers.
There won’t be, but that would be the theoretical sign this is different

if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

Anyone who refuses to see that Democrats consistently put up the bare number of votes in these situations to limit voter backlash is in deep denial.
There is a significant portion of Democratic Senators actively supporting fascism and an end to the ACA.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Too Good To Go is a great app for local grub on the cheap. We got 3 baker’s dozen of fresh bagels for $10
With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.

Biden's famine
letting SNAP expire right before thanksgiving and right as health care premiums skyrocket, on paper, seems like the kind of thing destined to be the downfall of a regime, setting aside that it’s gonna be a very thin christmas for a lot of people because of tariffs
I really don't think they've thought the ramifications of letting snap run out if money
