A war has to be especially stupid for a U.S. president to have to do it without authorization from a Congress controlled by his own party.

“Irony” isn’t nearly a strong enough word
Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

The House Armed Services Committee also was not briefed, I've confirmed.
News: Gang of Eight in Congress were only notified about Trump's Venezuela operation after it began, source familiar tells me. That means the heads of the Intelligence Committees in Senate and House were *not* consulted. Just crazy.

⬇️ seems that way. Also seeing very delayed mail here in NY especially out of the northeast. 10 days for a letter from Maine to NY, 5 days from MA to NY. How much worse is it going to get?
this seems specifically designed to break mail-in voting (where deadlines are defined by postmark)
As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

NEW from me — I broke down Trump's claim on local right wing radio that the US carried out a Christmas Eve land strike in Venezuela, how he doubled down Monday, the subsequent media reports with no substance, the potential role of social media rumors about an actual fire, and how we need the truth:
Trump says US bombed alleged drug facility in Venezuela. No one knows if it’s true.
It could be a lie from social media, or a conflation of other stories. Either way, Americans need to know.

The American people deserve to know the details and the legal justification when their military blows up things in foreign countries.
But that transparency isn't happening because the dictator Trump sees the military as his, not ours.
NYT confirms some sort of action: “American officials said that Trump was referring to a drug facility in Venezuela and that it was eliminated, but provided no details. Military officials said they had no information to share, and the CIA declined to comment. The White House declined to comment.”

More seriously, as most readers here know I helped draft the CA billionaire tax initiative text and you just can't get out of it by setting up a couple of LLCs in Florida. We have thought about how to block these fake paper moves for 4 years.
Billionaires are considering cutting or reducing their ties to California by the end of the year because of a proposed ballot measure that could tax the state’s wealthiest residents.
A Wealth Tax Floated in California Has Billionaires Thinking of Leaving
It’s uncertain whether the proposal will reach the statewide ballot in November, but some billionaires like Peter Thiel and Larry Page may be unwilling to take the risk.

Nothing has convinced me that Trump is seriously ill more than his frenzy to have theaters, websites and battleships named after him. (Well, also his ankles and IV bruise.) I'd love to see 60 Minutes report on it, although Bari Weiss would doubtless say, "We need to give equal time to immortality."

I wonder how she's feeling about her political career. She sold out everything she once valued, debased herself, placed herself on the side of evil, all in a crude grasp at power, and in return, she got shunted to the side & forgotten. Pathetic, richly deserved, but also, wooooof.

Really remarkable number in here: 62% of independents favor path to legalization over deportations. Trump and Stephen Miller are actively, relentlessly pushing the country in a pro-immigrant direction.

Maybe those who argued against attacking Trump on this due to "salience" fears got this wrong?
New Quinnipiac poll:

57% favor path to legalization for undocs vs 35% who back deporting them

Trump underwater on immigration (44-54) and on deportations (42-55)

Meanwhile DHS's Twitter feed is a white nationalist sewer pit and Gregory Bovino is swaggering around like an occupying general

The child and parents are US citizens, but that doesn't even matter.

These monsters pepper-sprayed a baby.

We cannot allow ICE to continue this behavior, and they aren't going to reform themselves.

Great to see @gallego.senate.gov absolutely savaging Republicans for helping cover up Trump's illegal killings. As I've been arguing, Dems should be taking *that* approach. Hound Republicans mercilessly until they agree to get to the bottom of all of it:

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

Senator Mark Kelly didn’t violate any military laws. None.

Hegseth’s little bitch ass has been ordered by Trump to retaliate against Sen. Kelly for speaking out, and Hegseth does what Daddy tells him to do.

That’s all this is.
