Death: THERE ARE BETTER THINGS IN THE WORLD THAN ALCOHOL, ALBERT.

Albert: Oh, yes, sir. But alcohol sort of compensates for not getting them.

Last night, I tried to write about evidence-based solutions. I was originally trained as a violence epidemiologist, am married to a police officer, and am a mom. I know there are things we can do.
I wrote it.
Deleted it.
Rewrote it.

I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

“If you want to think of it as an enemy, think of it as an enemy… If that’s going to hurt you, don’t do it.” A young oncologist’s journal became a Pulitzer-Prize-winning book. 15 years later, here’s how our understanding of cancer has evolved.
‘A Multi-Headed Beast’: Telling The Story Of Cancer
Science writer and oncologist Siddhartha Mukherjee discusses what we get wrong about cancer, and why he leans into nuance as an author.

VIDEO: Seattle Starbucks workers are on strike right now, trying to achieve their first contract to secure a living wage, proper staffing and good working conditions.

I spoke to Emma Cox, a barista at the U District Starbucks who’s helping lead the picket line at her store.

Not to worry, Seattle's 24/7 police surveillance cameras, expanding soon into three more neighborhoods, are totally different than Flock cameras and the feds will never, ever demand access to the footage (according to most of the city council and outgoing mayor)

Imagine what this would have looked like if Durkan fully got her way and Lorena González hadn't amended the STM up to 0.15%.
Seattle used to fund so much transit service until covid (and jenny durkan)

In 2019, almost 75% of the city lived within walking distance of a bus every 10 mins or better. Today, it's only like 50%!

Time to get the buses running again!

This has been on my mind. He hasn't set up Katie Wilson for success budget-wise.
if I HAD been in town today I probably would have asked outgoing Mayor Harrell why his budget for next year sets up a huge fiscal cliff for incoming ,ayor Wilson, using one-time funding for long-term needs and assuming nine-figure deficits starting in next year's budget cycle

Starbucks baristas have done everything right — organized, bargained, and stood together.

But the CEO still refuses to offer a fair contract or end union busting.

If baristas go on ULP strike, our response is simply DON’T BUY STARBUCKS.

We are just one day out from the Seattle local elections! Only 17.6% of King County voters and just under 20% of Seattle voters have returned their ballots. So far, only 1 in 17 young gen Z voters have voted, compared to more than 1 in 3 boomers. Don't forget to vote if you are eligible and want to.
