I can see the effects of colonisation on my own life, and that of my children.

I can see what we lost and how it affected our family directly. Every single day I am reminded.
I keep on coming back to the irrefutable fact that the people in New Zealand that don't want to address the impact of colonisation and argue "it's in the past, the current generation are not responsible for that" continue to enjoy benefits that flowed directly from that colonisation.

Follow Toi Iho for the best of Māori art and mean as Christmas ideas...
We're presenting a range of stunning art & products from Toi Iho artists for Christmas.

Check out #toiihochristmas

Buying authentic Māori art supports our artists and keeps our tikanga (tradition), our toi (art) and our kōrero tuku Iho (knowledge and stories passed through generations) continuing.

E hoa mā

This is what we've been working on for a while.

Give us a follow. And a share please 😊
Kia ora, we're a consultancy based in Aotearoa New Zealand with a focus on climate adaptation and nature-based-solutions.

Our focus is intergenerational planning, with climate change modelling to develop adaptation or development plans along with the land owners and mana whenua.

Biggest raupatu in Aotearoa was just over 24 million acres.

29 years after Dame Whina's statement it was taken by Helen Clarke's Labour Government.

The 2004 Foreshore and Seabed Act.

That's what confiscation is. That's what it looks like.
“This weekend, Pātaka Art+Museum in Porirua opens Not One More Acre: Remembering the 1975 Land March, marking 50 years since Dame Whina Cooper and Te Rōpū o te Matakite led a historic protest against the loss of Māori lan”

We just employed a HR director for the school. Can recommend to other schools and boards
The weird thing to me is the complete lack of HR function in schools (I know we've talked about this before) and also, Boards often learn only what the Principal wants them to.

We're at the point where adaptation is absolutely critical.

Riding bikes is great but it isn't going to save whenua Māori. We've gone too far
Hey e hoa mā

You've heard about climate change ne?

Did you know Māori will be disproportionately affected?

Why? Whenua Māori that was returned or retained is often marginal - repo (wetland/ swamp) or low ground.

"we are being forcibly removed from the decision making table we invited pākehā to sit at 1840.

We have been made a minority on our own whenua, we are now fighting for crumbs of what we have a right to - full and u disturbed sovereignty"

I went away. And now I am back.

It is hard being Māori in this political environment

Thanks to the non-Māori standing up for our rights

📣 This is how we fight back.
Only 4 days left to submit against the Regulatory Standards Bill.

It’s a direct attack on Te Tiriti, our rights, and public power. Make it impossible to ignore us.

Hated rejecting people mostly.

One time though we had an ad on seek. A guy bypassed the process, and emailed/called the CEO who passed on his cv and asked us to interview him as a courtesy.

We said he wasn't suitable but he kept calling so they asked us to see him.

A lil 🧵
When I interview people for a job at my company, the part that I most enjoy is when we reject people. The more the merrier and I come home after a day of interviewing people more happy the more we reject people.

Are there any ringawera / allergic people who could review.

I'm just going to give it away, so it's not for $$$

This quote from the book was exactly what I needed

"You must be deliverate too. Don't hold your tongue for their comfort anymore. They never considered yours."

Thank you so much
#MWSecretSantaAoNZ you did perfectly. I hadn't seen this book and it's so beautiful.

Speak up, tell people about this injustice.

You need to bring these conversations into your workplaces

Be brave

I did a poll 100% think the penalty was too harsh.

Publish that

I forgot I wrote this.

Kinda feels relevant
A poem for Matariki

Hey, Tawhiriamatea!
I understand why you wanted to stay in the dark.
Sometimes the light is too much to bear.
Sometimes that potential, just too much to realise.
Sometimes it's not too much! It's just all too much.

The government is scared of Māori power.

They use anything they can - legislation, policy, informal 'norms' to inhibit.

This is colonisation by design. It has been developed and refined over centuries across the globe.
The continued Privileges debate is at 3pm
❤️🤍🖤
Everyone’s fixated on punishment length, privilege, civility

The haka wasn’t the problem, it was the spark🔥
It moved people here & around the world.l

Unapologetically Māori. Unapologetically tangata Te Tiriti

That’s what liberation looks like

I'm stacking up quote posts now

One time two young women were having a picnic on the dunes sitting ON TOP of the plants (pingao) right by the sign that said keep of the plants.
After I asked them to move & they refused, I said get off that fucking whenua.

But this weekend we're going to my partner's Marae and I fucking love it there aaaaand on Matariki weekend I am going to my turangawaewae to see my tamaiti tuarua and I can't wait for tawhirimatea to cleanse me
Yesterday I felt like I couldn't do anything, but my te reo course gave me strength, and today I feel like I can do something.
