You’ve seen my real-time video last night from Beaver.. well here is what Maia saw on her tour! Beautiful from Fairbanks as well.

Maia just got a Sony FX3 to capture real-time video during her tours. Here’s one of the first videos!

Following the strong X4.2 solar flare at 12:00 UTC, sunspot group 4366 has calmed down. It now looks more like a bipolar region, but the leading spot still shows remarkably fast rotation, which can lead to stress and possibly an eruption.

AR 4366 produced an X1.04 flare peaking around 1233 UT today. This was part of a triad of flares in short succession with M6.75 and M5.88 flares shortly before and after the X-class, respectively. Notably, there was NO CME produced by this event...

„Das bilden Sie sich doch nur ein“ bekommen viele Leute zu hören, die etwa unter ME/CFS leiden. Das ist keine wissenschaftliche Strenge, sondern ein Behandlungsfehler.

Recipe for stronger flares

The red positive polarity spot in the middle is trapped and surrounded by negative polarity. Theres is flux emergence of both polarities everywhere and the larger spots started to rotate significantly. That means the magnetic field above them becomes highly twisted.

Coronal hole CH17- is responsible for the fast solar wind we are connected with (500-700 km/s)

All active regions (sunspot groups) on the disk are small and simple. Low flare and CME risk.

Large filaments near the center and in the east, eruptions possible…

I still have this timelapse from January 20, 2026. It's funny how quickly we become spoiled. I almost didn't want to share it because it had “so little” to offer compared to January 19.
I decided it would be a shame not to share it.
