The vicinity of sunspot region 4294 (ex 4281) is a large and complex magnetic mess. The area behind it may be given a different number.
November 29, 2025 at 2:54 PM
NE limb eruption, likely from the vicinity of region ex 4274 (ex 4246) with type II radio burst, estimated speed 731 km/s

Active regions on the eastern limb of the Sun live up to their name: very active
November 29, 2025 at 9:38 AM
A very active sun in both hemispheres – this is unusual for this solar cycle.
November 29, 2025 at 9:25 AM
Eruptive powerful M5.9 solar flare from sunspot region ex 4281 (new number possibly 4294). A type II radio emission was detected – estimated speed 828 km/s.

The possible associated coronal mass ejection won't be earth-directed (i assume) but now we know ex 4281 can produce CMEs.

Synoptic map of the Sun:

– 4 positively polarised coronal holes (CH+) in the W
– 'Butterfly' (or thyroid) CH– in the E (fast wind in 1 week)
– 5 relatively simple sunspot groups
– Some larger filaments
– Flare and CME producing regions behind the E limb
– Magnetic polarities

I just can't get enough of watching these coronal magnetic loops. Majestic and mesmerizing.

(We are likely seeing old region 4281 approaching the southeastern limb of the Sun)

Old acquaintances in the eastern part of the Sun: The 'butterfly' coronal hole and near the SE limb old sunspot group 4281. The latter is leading to increased flare activity. Let's see if it can also produce CMEs.

We will hear more details in the coming days but it also looks like ESA Space Safety - with a highly ambitious program - was very well funded, and besides the Asteroid mission to Apophis in 2029 (once in a lifetime chance), eager to hear more about the #spacewather missions to be designed and built!
Today marks a milestone for European space exploration. The largest contributions in the history of the European Space Agency, €22.1 billion, were just approved at our Ministerial Council meeting in Bremen, Germany. #CM25

The final act of the solar opera: The end of the filament

"You want to see me erupt? Yo Momma will erupt!"

The NE limb filament opts for dissipation and precipitation instead of an eruption.

A large and complex active region is approaching the Southeast limb of the Sun.

A lot of activity behind the Sun's NE limb. Will it continue over the next few days?

Circular plasma movements around the filament at the NE limb of the Sun reveal the surrounding magnetic fields.

Synoptic map of the Sun: 4 small and simple sunspot regions + 4291: magnetically complex (beta-gamma-delta) but quiet. Coronal hole CH98+ is delivering fast solar wind, to which we are coupled.

Close up of an eruption from the far side of the Sun behind the NE limb (not facing Earth) - we see how material from the upper corona was initially pushed away.
November 25, 2025 at 11:06 PM
Eruption on the far side of the Sun – a CME producing active region is coming closer to the East limb. Is it old 4274 or a new one?

A large complex of + polarised coronal holes will dominate Earth's space weather in the next few days.

Fast solar wind > 700 km/s from November 25 on (?)

Interaction regions, small filament eruptions and a newly emerged sunspot group inside the complex ☞ G1 MINOR STORM likely
