Water Dumples implies the existence of Land Dumples
Water Dumples used to have sensory whiskers just above their lips in Pikmin 1. For some reason, these were removed starting in Pikmin 2. It is unknown why the Dumples were “shaved”.

This is an accurate endorsement of Bluesky. The core user base are the kids who would whisper "wanna see a weird bug?"
And then proceed to show you the weirdest bug/thing/idea you have ever seen.
Welcome, #NewSkies
Someone told me lately "Bluesky is just like Twitter." I argued that was untrue on the basis that last time I had a Twitter account most times I got a new follower their bio said "single & looking for fun" & here when I get a new follower it tends to say something like "professor of rare moths".

On International Day of Women & Girls in Science I want to recognize a few (I'll miss many) of the women who mentored, inspired & empowered my career. It starts with Dr. Alice Burton, the PUI professor who opened my eyes to the idea that cells are full of machines 1/n

Why are there 1000 kelp crabs at Fossil Point today? It was incredible, I’ve never seen more than a handful at a time.

being Aged by my music streaming app is weird. "here, i bet you'll like these," it says, listing 10 albums released in college, that i have physical copies of but haven't streamed in a decade.

they're all about 20 years old

An interesting trend that kind of confirms my suspicions: folks in Molecular/Cellular Biology don't really socialize with Evo/Eco folks much, and vice-versa.

It certainly felt this way in grad school, too!

I'm over in the southwest, in the big evo/eco cluster. I'm grouped halfway between evolution and entomology. It's a little surprising that the animal behavior cluster is (1) pretty distinct from evolution and (2) I'm not in it. Gotta follow more behaviorists!

Another #SuperbOwl for you this Sunday, this one from New England was freed from a chimney cavity and needed an eye wash from all the soot. A good reminder to install chimney caps!
