it is pretty darkly funny seeing posts like URGENT!!!! it is SUNDAY EVENING you must PUT DOWN YOUR DINNER and call your senator IMMEDIATELY to politely request they not press the big button marked "fuck you". this will not actually stop them from pressing the fuck you button. functioning democracy

I don't think it's even right to say the voting public doesn't care. I think the truth is a lot of voters may generally find trans identity moderately confusing but also *none of their business*.

on the other hand, they find an obsession with harming trans people - say it with me - deeply weird.
Spanberger’s GOP foe spent 57% of her ad budget on anti-trans attacks. Spanberger focused on the economy. You see what won. trib.al/fkMmsR4

The simple truth told time and time again in the polls: The public doesn’t care about trans issues. Voters care deeply about the economy, inflation, & prices.

just want to reiterate that the first amendment isn't something you "hide behind," it's something that constrains the government's ability to limit your inalienable rights. that distinction is very important

spent an extra 15 minutes in bed this morning because Coal was standing on my back, purring and making biscuits. and who am I to interrupt the artistry of a skilled baker?!

it took him a while to truly let his guard down and I am so, so happy he has. 🥹

first day of my new job starts in about 12.5 hours and I have a group of inflamed pimples that looks like the Big Dipper on my cheek 🙃 and putting on makeup (which was the plan) is going to make it worse 🙃🙃

one of my favorite things in recent weeks is meeting my aunt and grandmother over FaceTime for tea on Saturday mornings.

my Saturdays are more productive when I’m starting them with 60-90 minutes of conversation with family 700 miles away than they would be if I just slept in late instead.

didn’t mention it out of anxiety that things wouldn’t work out, but I accepted a job offer on Friday. back to the legal field I go! first day there is November 3.

while the boys are thrilled their treat budget will increase, I don’t think they realize it means Mom will be gone all day 🙁

Political parties must shift immediately and dramatically to the left to avoid alienating these frustrated and abandoned young women. Am I doing this right?
Our recent poll found that women 28 and younger skew substantially more left than the national average. Nearly 80 percent of Gen Z women want abortion to be legal and seven in 10 want gender-affirming care to be accessible for trans adults.
Gen Z women are the most liberal group in the country

the curtain rod in my bedroom gave up the ghost after like 4 years. it’s impossible to sleep in here without blackout curtains because there are brightly-lit 10+ story buildings across the street.

I have a job interview in the city tomorrow morning that I’d like to be well-rested for. 😫

Hannah Arendt distinguished totalitarianism “from other forms of political oppression known to us such as despotism, tyranny and dictatorship” in that totalitarianism seeks to subjugate civil society and private lives, not just political opponents, using psychological, not just physical, repression.
I saw the new George Orwell documentary last night. It’s called 2+2=5. I have been a little bit squeamish about applying the word totalitarian to Trump and the Republicans. Not anymore. We are experiencing a totalitarian movement. There’s no question.
