A great thread about how to create a fight sequence that works as action and to move the plot.
A good thing about AI slop like the Cruise/Pitt fight thing is that it highlights just how repetitive and soulless MANY movie fight scenes are. They might as WELL be slop.
Some top-of-my-head things to keep in mind to make your fights human:

They're actually going to be buying electricity from coal plants, not retrofitting ships or, as I'd like to see, planes to run on anthracite.

A specter is haunting the USA —
TRUMP: We can grow at 15 percent. I think more than that!

KUDLOW: Well, 15 is a big number sir

TRUMP: But Larry, you can do it. We used to grow at 15 percent because we had spirit. Today we have a lot of communism

I really want people to think about this. After all the insane lawsuits, all the threats, all the bullshit weve seen from this admin and the targets who kneeled in fear, an average Joe called the president a Pedophile protector to his face and didn't get touched. That's the Power of a union.

This sounds like a dare.
This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

I'm urging people who are trying to build and keep movements together to read Set the Night on Fire by Jon Weiner and Mike Davis. It's a history of the various civil rights movements and actions in 1960s LA and the ways the LAPD used internal divisions to suppress them. From @versobooks.bsky.social
LAPD arrested at least two teenagers protesting ICE raids in Los Angeles yesterday. They were also seen corresponding with ICE agents on Alameda Street during the demonstrations.

I guess I was having one of those nights last night where it seemed like a great idea to order a copy of Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit for next day delivery. I should check the batteries in the carbon monoxide detector.

Just had about 60 high schoolers march past my office, holding signs and chanting "ICE out of Santa Ana." Good kids.

It might not always look like it, but we're going to win.

The Epstein files have made it so clear that the struggles against misogyny, racism, and plutocracy are linked struggles against a small, largely identifiable group of people.
Globalization led to the collapse of the middle. Now tech is promising to do the same to the upper middle

If the wealthy proletarianize and casualize everyone else, what's left for ordinary people but a fierce desire to overturn the status quo EVERYWHERE?

Can you show me on the picture of material conditions where what you feel in your heart is?
this is of course correct and indicative of the protestant (in its basest sense) capture of the American imagination.

where true religion is only about interiority and therefore never questionable, and therefore true politics are about internal intentions which can never be known.
I think one thing white people tie ourselves in knots over about racism is what someone “feels in their heart” or whatever. And that just … doesn’t really matter? It’s the behavior that matters.

Cops were frequently getting caught planting drugs in 2017 because body cameras were new and many of them didn't understand how the technology worked.

When cops hit "record" it saved the 30 seconds from *before* they hit the button. Eventually, they figured it out.
