A month out from launch, we're releasing the BIG HOPS documentary about the game's 6 year journey.

It covers Hop's origin, growing the team, navigating a tough design space, bringing it all together, getting dropped by our publisher, Kickstarting, and more!

KOG IS GREENLIT!
Since this was shown in the trailer/ad for the artbook it felt safe to share. This was drawn in '24, early dev, the first time it really felt me, Zach, and JBO understood Frankie, Andi, and the show's tone. I still look at this drawing and think, oh yeah. That's #knightsofguinevere.

New rule: Game dev teams that have been reconstituted as a new studio, either under a new leader or even largely intact from a previous configuration, should be considered and consider themselves, a new team, until they ship a new product.

Until they do that, they have everything to prove.
I will always root for developers to succeed. Really anyone in a creative venture trying to make something cool.

But I do think people need to stop building their studios around past pedigree.

Teams make games, not “people who worked at X studios”.

And maybe don’t spend millions on game 1.

Today I read someone referring to the continuing trend of half-baked hero shooters that might be team based, might be extraction based, as "Concord-likes".

Meanwhile, the Potomac River is getting a lot of sewage water leakage lately, with no end to it in sight. www.npr.org/2026/02/07/n...
What we know about the massive sewage leak in the Potomac River
A collapsed sewer line, about 8 miles from the White House, pumped 368 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of wastewater into the Potomac. Repairs could take longer than previously expected.

Iron Lung the movie, good shit @markiplier.bsky.social and crew. The others in the theater for a Saturday afternoon matinee didn't seem the type to go watch movies in a theater, but they would watch a streamer.

Like me, I bet they wished for subtitles. But like the film says, it doesn't matter.

From last summer, UChicago CompSci professor @ravenben.bsky.social tells a bunch of librarians why LLMs are basically donezo, but of course there's so much expectation that they can do more than they should be expected, cleanup and damage control are reasonable considerations for the near future.

If only people knew how to apologize without redirecting blame, other people might find it easier to consider such apologies genuine.

In a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal titled "To Those I've Hurt," the artist formerly known as Kanye West said: "I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people."

I knew Minnesota went hard. I listen to Atmosphere and I fondly remember the original Fargo movie. This is harder, still. History will remember Before Minnesota and After Minnesota. Still not sure of the details.

So Nintendo got some other shop to upscale Retro's DKC Returns and made Dixie Kong playable ... but didn't redo any of the cutscenes. So if you're playing as Dixie, Diddy Kong appears, then shoots out of the scene, like this.

OK, that's cool. Though also bound to be chaotic af and reinforcing the need for editorial control, that not everyone who is fascinated by narrative design always appreciates. But whatever comes out in the end, will be one helluva elephant.
Additionally, on Monday, IFTF in partnership with Informa will kick off the GDC Twine Adventure, a new conference-spanning interactive fiction activity! In the spirit of an exquisite corpse, any attendee may add a node to an ever-expanding Twine story.

Imagine working in an office with a boiler room where something blows up at 5 a.m. Then, imagine that office is where they make Grand Theft Auto. Yeah, I'm sure it could be innocent, but if we're going to assume anything ...
Scottish Emergency Services have attended to an explosion at the Rockstar North offices in Edinburgh, which took place at approximately 5:02am local time.
