Yesterday, the @nationaltrust.org.uk released a family group and a pair of Eurasian beavers at two sites as part of a wider release across the Holnicote Estate on Exmoor in Somerset. This is the second licensed wild release by the National Trust, following the first in Dorset last year.

...Canada, cut off from communication, snowed in for a long winter with dwindling supplies & almost no knowledge of what's happening in the wider world.

I really enjoyed this book & wanted it to be longer.

Just finished reading Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice.

An excellent recommendation by the folk at the Highland Bookshop in Fort William.

This is a very focused take on an apocalypse story from the perspective of a small first nation community in the far north of...

I've had this bromeliad for over 20 years, so it's exciting when every few years a baby appears!

Just finished reading Oryx & Crake by Margaret Atwood.

Pretty dark dystopia. Great read with shades of Vonnegut in Atwood's playfulness. First of rher books I've read. Will be seeking out the sequels.

I've been having an unplanned stay in Inverness while a friend has surgery & recovery after wrecking his leg skiing.

What a fantastic clean town, with the nicest people & incredible surrounding scenery. I wish I could stay here, but I've got little done because everyone wants to talk to my dog 😅

Goldsmith is one of those awkward fits where he's a great advocate for nature, but very problematic elsewhere.

Similar to Boris Johnson being a great advocate for active travel. Great to have someone who can steer the right on an important issue, but overall, suboptimal.
This will be a challenge for all involved. Ben is a true friend of nature and Reform had laughable environmental credentials in general election. I will watch with interest. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

By the end, it's more clear that this was partially the point, but I was never really sold on the decisions C & M made & their reasons for making them.

I didn't dislike it - there were parts that were touching, but overall I was glad it was a quick read.

Are there better books by SR to read?

Just finished reading Normal People by Sally Rooney

Coming off the back of Ferrante, reading this felt a bit jarring - very different narrative style.

I think I struggle with books like this where the central conceit depends on two people not communicating with each other.

..., as the structure & prose of her story telling is so unique.

The only very minor complaint I have is the amount of coincidence in the story, but that's literature, right?

This ends in a wild, but inevitable place, so I can't wait to read the final book.

...but the compromises & decisions she makes never truly give her what she wants or expects. The thread of connection between her & Lila is so tenuous, yet so tenacious by this point.

I love these books so much & Ferrante just makes it all look so easy. Switching to other books is jarring...

Just finished reading Those Who Leave & Those Who Stay by Elena Ferrante.

Third of the Neapolitan quartet & it ramps up a wider story of communism Vs facism, workers & violence through the main arterial narrative of Elena's escape from poverty, her past, her family & Naples...

A huge amount going on in this book. As well as enjoying the interspersed blog posts, I learned a huge amount about Nigerian life & the experience of migrants.

The overarching story was pretty captivating & the ending was perfect.

Loved this book!

Just finished reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

A story of love, race, identity, privilege & belonging from Nigeria to the USA with a brief stop in the UK.

A deep & thoughtful story that takes its time, but was never failed to keep my attention.

...the manifestation of trauma. An unrelenting story of psychological damage with no resolution which, while brutal, is painfully honest.

I felt physically sick by the end & hated reading it. It is a staggering & accomplished piece of work that will stay with me.

Just finished reading A Girl is a Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride.

Although the writing style is deliberately unconventional, I became comfortable with it quite quickly, but the subject matter was deeply uncomfortable & difficult to read.

The whole book feels like being inside...
